A liquid crystal display includes: a liquid crystal panel including a first substrate and a second substrate facing each other, and a liquid crystal layer provided between the first substrate and the second substrate; a local backlight unit configured to irradiate beams to a first region of the liquid crystal panel and including a plurality of light emitting blocks including a first light emitting block, each of the light emitting blocks emitting beams with controllable luminance; a global backlight unit configured to irradiate beams of uniform luminance to a second region of the liquid crystal panel; and a backlight driver configured to supply a driving signal to the local backlight unit and the global backlight unit.

Display device and method for manufacturing the same

A liquid crystal display having a curved structure includes a plurality of pixels and a liquid crystal layer interposed between a first display substrate and a second display substrate. The first display substrate includes a first substrate, gate lines, data lines, a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode disposed in a pixel area, a first thin film transistor, and a second thin film transistor. The second display substrate includes a second substrate, a light blocking member, and a common electrode. Each pixel has a quadrangular shape including a long side and a short side. The long side of each pixel is extended in a first direction that is parallel to a direction in which the liquid crystal display is bent, and the short side of each pixel is extended in a second direction that is vertical to the first direction.

Liquid crystal display

Provided is a liquid crystal display including: a display panel which includes a lower panel including a thin film transistor, a pixel electrode connected to the thin film transistor, and a light blocking member; an upper panel facing the lower panel; and a liquid crystal layer positioned between the lower panel and the upper panel and including liquid crystal molecules. The display panel is a curved display panel which is curved on a first axis. The pixel electrode has long sides and short sides, and the long sides are arranged to be substantially parallel with a second axis perpendicular to the first axis.

A liquid crystal display comprises: an upper panel including an upper substrate on which a plurality of thin film layers are formed; a lower panel including a lower substrate on which a plurality of thin film layers are formed; a liquid crystal layer positioned between the upper panel and the lower panel; and a sealing member bonding between the upper panel and the lower panel and constraining the liquid crystal layer. The lower panel includes an aligning agent margin part which is positioned inside the sealing member on the lower substrate and dummy pixels which are positioned at the aligning agent margin part and which enclose a display area. By this configuration, it is possible for a liquid crystal display to be capable of reducing the peripheral area of the display panel so as to expand the display area or making the peripheral area seem smaller to make the display area seem larger.

Liquid crystal display device

A curved display device includes a display panel having a display area on which an image is displayed; a receiving member receiving the display panel; and a cover member covering a border of the display panel to combine with the receiving member. The display panel has a bent shape along a first direction and a second direction crossing the first direction and each of the receiving member and the cover member is bent to maintain the bent shape of the display panel.

According to one or more embodiments, an inverter provides a light source with an input voltage. A protection circuit shuts down the inverter based on an overvoltage protection level that is detected based on the input voltage. A protection circuit control part shuts down the operation of the protection circuit during a predetermined interval. Abnormal operation of the protection circuit caused by a high voltage provided when the light source is turned on may be prevented. Therefore, a turn-on defect of the light source may be prevented.

A backlight unit includes; a light source, an inverter which provides the light source with an input voltage, and a printed circuit board ('PCB') connected to the light source, wherein the PCB includes a protection circuit which detects an open-lamp-protection voltage which varies according to a change of the input voltage and changes a reference voltage according to the change of the input voltage, wherein the protection circuit turns off the inverter when the detected open-lamp-protection voltage is higher than the changed reference voltage.

A balance board includes; a substrate, a first wire disposed on the substrate, a second wire disposed on the substrate and spaced apart from the first wire, a plurality of first balance coils connected to the first wire and which uniformly distribute a first power supply voltage, a plurality of second balance coils connected to the second wire and which uniformly distribute a second power supply voltage, and a conductive pattern disposed on the substrate and spaced apart from the first and second wires, wherein the first and second wires are disposed substantially in parallel with each other, the second wire being divided into a plurality of parts with respect to an area where the first wire and the second wire cross over one another and the plurality of parts of the second wire are connected by a plurality of jumper connectors overlapping the first wire.

Balance board and liquid crystal display having the same

A backlight assembly includes: a plurality of lamp units; and an inverter which includes a plurality of pattern capacitors, wherein each of the pattern capacitors is electrically connected to a respective one of the plurality of lamp units, wherein each of the pattern capacitors comprises a printed circuit board, and a conductive layer formed on one side of the printed circuit board, and at least one of the plurality of pattern capacitors has a different electric capacity than another of the pattern capacitors.
