Provided is a method of introducing a scavenger composition into a fluid contaminated with a sulfur contaminant, mixing the scavenger composition with the fluid in a vessel, and recovering the fluid containing a reduced amount of sulfur contaminant from the effluent. The scavenger composition comprises a hydrogen sulfide scavenger and a linear anionic polymer. The linear anionic polymer is present in an amount of about 0.1% to about 50% by weight of the scavenger composition and has a number average molecular weight of about 1.0&#xd7;10to about 2.0&#xd7;10Daltons.

Methods for treating paraffins, iron sulfide, hydrogen sulfide, and/or bacteria in subterranean operations and operations involving the production and/or transportation of oil and gas are provided. In one or more embodiments, the methods include contacting a surface comprising at least one paraffin deposit and at least one iron sulfide deposit with a treatment fluid comprising a paraffin dissolver and acrolein; and allowing the treatment fluid to at least partially dissolve or degrade the paraffin deposit and the iron sulfide deposit.

A method is disclosed that includes introducing a scavenger composition into a fluid stream contaminated with a sulfur contaminant such that the scavenger composition reacts with the sulfur contaminant to reduce an amount of the sulfur contaminant in the fluid stream, wherein the scavenger composition includes a hydrogen sulfide scavenger and an anionic linear polymer. A composition is disclosed that includes a hydrogen sulfide scavenger; and an anionic linear polymer.

Methods for the use of zinc ammonium carbonate as a scavenger of sulfur-containing species encountered in oilfield operations are provided. In one embodiment, the methods include introducing a sulfide scavenging additive including zinc ammonium carbonate into at least a portion of a conduit through which a potential sulfur-containing fluid is flowing.
