The present invention provides a biosensor, wherein non-specific adsorption on a surface that does not retain a physiologically active substance (reference unit) is suppressed. The biosensor of the invention includes a substrate having at least two types of surfaces on a single plane, wherein at least one of the surfaces does not retain a physiologically active substance, and wherein at least two types of hydrophilic compounds with different molecular weights are bound to the surface that does not retain a physiologically active substance.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a method for producing a solid substrate used for sensors having a film with a small film thickness distribution, and a solid surface used for sensors having a film with a small film thickness distribution. The present invention provides a method for producing a solid substrate for sensors that has a coating on the surface using spin coating, wherein a substrate to be coated is rotated in an atmosphere in which the vapor pressure of coating solvent is 50% to 100% with respect to the saturation vapor pressure so as to form a thin film of a coating solution on said substrate to be coated.

The present invention provides a biosensor comprising a substrate on which a hydrophilic polymer having a reactive group capable of binding to a physiologically active substance is immobilized via a compound represented by the following formula (1), said compound at a concentration of 1 mM being dissolved in water at 25&#xb0; C.:X-L-Y&#x2003;&#x2003;(1)wherein X represents a group capable of binding to metal, L represents a linking group, and Y represents a functional group to which the hydrophilic polymer is bound.
