A stabilized resin composition comprising a resin, a piperidine derivative represented by the formula (III) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbom atoms; R.sub.2 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from 1 to 2 carbon atoms; and R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are each independently an alkyl group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms, a phenol-type antioxidant and a sulfur-containing antioxidant. The composition simultaneously meets heat resistance, oxidation resistance and light resistance requirements.

A butadiene polymer composition having incorporated the following stabilizers therein: A phenolic compound (I) of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, and a sulfur-containing compound (II) represented by the general formula, ##STR2## wherein R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 independently represent a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group, and R.sub.4 represents a C.sub.3 -C.sub.18 alkyl group, wherein the weight ratio of (I) to (II) is 1 to 0.5-10. The butadiene polymer composition of the present invention is quite effective to prevent gel formation caused by heat, especially in the absence of oxygen.

The present invention relates to a piperidine derivative represented by the general formula (I), ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a uni- or divalent carboxylic acid residue, R.sub.2 is a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 acyl group, l is an integer of 1 to 3 and n is 1 or 2, its production and a stabilizer for organic substances containing it as an effective ingredient.

The subject piperdine derivatives are useful as stabilizers for preventing the deterioration of polymers by light.

Bisphenol derivatives of the formula (I), ##STR1## are produced by reacting a carboxylic acid, RCOOH (II), with a bisphenol of the formula (III), ##STR2## adding a halogenating agent in the presence of a dehydrohalogenating agent. The product bisphenol derivatives are useful as antioxidants.

A stabilizer for polymeric substances made up of a sulfur-containing compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents an alkyl group having 4 to 20 carbon atoms and a phenolic compound of the general formula: ##STR2## wherein R.sub.2 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, in the ratio (I):(II) of 1:0.1-2 by weight. The combination of the above stabilizer with a polymeric substance, such as synthetic rubber is also contemplated herein.

Phenolic compounds and methods of producing such phenolic compounds are disclosed, said compounds being of the formula: ##STR1## wherein n' is an integer from 1 to 3, and R.sub.1 is a hydrogen atom, or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or an acyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms.
