A research and development support system includes: one or more databases that store a plurality of types of data and information related to research and development, and an administrative system that accesses the one or more databases to perform information processing. The one or more databases stores research and development-related information as information related to research and development conducted by a researcher, device-related information as information related to devices used for research and development, and usage history information as information on history of the device being used by the researcher. The administrative system is configured to generate and outputting information that supports research and development on the basis of the usage history information, the device-related information, and the research and development-related information.

Material development assistance system and material development assistance method

There is provided a method for fabricating a magnetic recording medium that provides high throughput, low manufacturing cost, and no degradation in accuracy in pattern size in fine pattern formation. A resist layer is formed on a substrate or cutting work layer. The surface of the substrate is divided into two or more areas using the center of rotation of the substrate as a reference point. An optical, contactless pattern transfer method is used to transfer a figure pattern contained in the divided area through a mask to the resist layer so as to form a latent image of the figure pattern. The pattern transfer is similarly carried out for the divided area. After the pattern transfer processes for all the divided areas are completed, the entire resist layer is developed to form a resist pattern. The resist pattern is used as a mask to cut the substrate or cutting work layer. As a result, there is provided the substrate or cut work layer onto which a fine pattern has been transferred.

Magnetic recording medium, method for manufacturing the same, and magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus

In a discrete track medium and a patterned medium, a meniscus adsorptive force is reduced and writing into adjacent tracks is prevented. A magnetic layer in lands or patterns in the discrete track medium or the patterned medium is formed into a cylindrical shelly or spherical shelly shape with a uniform thickness. Moreover, a height of cylindrical shelly land or a height of spherical shelly land is changed between 5 nm and 30 nm according to radial positions. Thus, an effect is achieved for providing a magnetic recording medium and a magnetic disk apparatus which are excellent in realizing higher recording density and higher reliability.

A method for producing a recording medium provides good throughput for mass production and reduces cost. The method facilitates the control of the shape or dimensions of a pattern obtained by microfabrication, allows an accurate pattern transfer, and provides superior uniformity. A magnetic layer is formed on a substrate. A nano-particle filmis formed on a desired portion on the magnetic layer. Using the nano-particle film as a mask, the magnetic layer is cut. A micropattern with concavities and convexities is formed on the magnetic layer by removing the nano-particle film.

Disclosed herewith is a method for enabling fast and high density recording of information. A voltage is applied to a recording layer formed between a pair of electrodes. The distance between the pair of electrodes is set wider at one of land and groove areas of a subject optical disk and narrower at the other or the distance is set so that light absorption occurs only in either of the land and groove areas. The optical disk is also provided with a layer of which light absorption spectrum changes according to the application of an electric current, thereby absorbing the light. The new layer may be the recording layer itself or a layer adjacent to the recording layer. Because a heat generates only from a small area of the optical disk at the time of recording, the disk can be turned rapidly and permissively to the auto focusing and tracking offsets, thereby enabling fast and high density recording. The disk can thus be formed with easily selectable multiple layers.

Information recording medium having pair of electrodes

An information recording method and information recording apparatus is capable of resolving the trade-off relation between recording density and transmittance, wherein either the reproduction (playback) signal quality or the recording sensitivity is lowered. For this purpose, a voltage is applied by way of ball bearings or slip rings to a specified layer of a medium having multiple layers. The light transmittance of the recording layer is changed by application of this voltage. The tradeoff relationship between recording density and transmittance is eliminated thereby, and the recording density and transmittance levels are both improved, so as to enhance the recording reliability.

Information recording method and information recording apparatus

The magnetic recording medium provided is produced by forming a substrate having a nanoparticle layer comprising an array of nanoparticles, and an organic compound between said array of nanoparticles; irradiating the nanoparticle layer with an infrared beam to magnetize the nanoparticles; applying a magnetic field to the nanoparticle layer to orient easy axis of magnetization of the magnetic nanoparticles in a substantially uniform direction; and irradiating the nanoparticle layer with an ultraviolet beam to bind said organic compound to thereby produce a magnetic recording medium wherein easy axis of magnetization of the nanoparticles has been oriented in a direction substantially parallel to a direction at a particular angle with the substrate. The resulting magnetic recording medium experiences no deterioration of the underlying layer or the soft magnetic layer, and exhibits good magnetic properties.

The disk can thus be formed with easily selectable multiple layers.

Provided is a thin film single pole head for perpendicular magnetic recording, which has a structure offering a high formatted volume, easy servo, difficulty of influencing a recording pattern on a medium, and capability of shortening processing time. This thin film single pole head for perpendicular magnetic recording is formed on a reproducing head composed of a pair of shield layers formed on a substrate, and a reproducing element formed therebetween. A structure is provided, where an auxiliary pole is not disposed between the reproducing element of the reproducing head and the main pole of a recording head when seen from a surface facing to recording media.

A negative pattern is formed to be transparent in the far ultraviolet region including the wavelength 193 nm of an ArF excimer laser and, despite its chemical structure having high dry etching, does not swell and has excellent resolution. An acid-catalyzed reaction is utilized wherein a &#x3b3;-hydroxy or &#x3b4;-hydroxy carboxylic acid structure is partially or entirely converted to a &#x3b3;-lactone or &#x3b4;-lactone structure. The negative pattern is developed with an aqueous alkali solution without swelling.

Resonant Plasmon excitation and resonance absorption of ultra-particles enable the edges of the recorded marks to be identified clearly and intense absorption to occur only in the given layer depending on the wavelength in the case of the multi-layer medium achieving high-density, large-capacity recording.
