To provide a vehicle control apparatus which performs deceleration stepwisely according to the traveling state of the ego vehicle, and can reduce the uncomfortable feeling to the occupant, and the discomfort to the following vehicle. A vehicle control apparatus sets a deceleration point and a deceleration point speed on a target travel route, and sets a preliminary deceleration completion point between a present position of an ego vehicle, and the deceleration point; sets a preliminary deceleration completion speed; and sets the preliminary deceleration completion point and a preliminary deceleration completion speed so that an absolute value of deceleration of a preliminary deceleration interval is smaller than an absolute value of deceleration of a final deceleration interval.

A vehicle control apparatus includes a lane-changing-cancellation determination unit that cancels lane changing and determines whether or not an own vehicle should return to the original lane, in the case where while the own vehicle performs the lane changing, another vehicle is detected within an area determined by a predetermined longitudinal-direction range and a predetermined transverse-direction range, and a moving-direction determination unit that determines a moving direction of another vehicle, based on another-vehicle information to be acquired by an another-vehicle-information acquisition unit and road information to be acquired by a road-information acquisition unit, wherein the lane-changing-cancellation determination unit changes at least one of the longitudinal-direction range and the transverse-direction range, in accordance with a moving direction of said another vehicle determined by the moving-direction determination unit.

A travel route generation apparatus and a travel route generation method, during lane change of the own vehicle, determines whether or not the lane marking information of each lane marking is effective lane marking information which can be used for generation of a lane change travel route which is a travel route for changing lanes; selects a reference lane marking from the lane marking on the left side and the lane marking on the right side of an own lane, based on an effectiveness determination result; and generates a lane change travel route, based on the lane marking information of the reference lane marking.

The preceding vehicle determination unit includes: a preceding vehicle candidate selection unit for selecting, as a preceding vehicle candidate, the surrounding vehicle traveling in front on an own vehicle traveling lane and the surrounding vehicle predicted to cut in to the own vehicle traveling lane; a collision risk determination unit for determining a collision risk of each surrounding vehicle selected as the preceding vehicle candidate; and a preceding vehicle selecting unit for selecting, as the preceding vehicle, the surrounding vehicle of which the collision risk is greatest.
