According to one embodiment, a medical imaging apparatus includes a gantry, a carriage, a screen, a reflector, and a frame. The gantry has a bore formed therein. The bore is formed to accept a subject to be imaged by the medical imaging apparatus. The carriage moves through the bore. The screen is provided on the carriage. An image is projected on the screen by a projector from a rear. The rear is opposite to a side of which a top plate is inserted into the bore. The reflector reflects the image projected on the screen. The reflector includes prisms arranged in a same line. The frame supports the reflector. The frame is provided on the carriage.

Medical imaging apparatus

An optical device includes a light-shielding layer and a microlens array. The light-shielding layer includes a plurality of openings. The microlens array is divided into a plurality of microlenses corresponding to the respective plurality of openings. A refractive index of the microlens array is variable so that light is incident on the microlenses is focused on the respective plurality of openings. A portion where light is focused includes a central position of the corresponding opening.

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal optical device includes first and second substrate units and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate unit includes a first substrate having a first major surface, and a first electrode extending along a first direction. The second substrate unit includes a second substrate and a first opposing electrode. The liquid crystal layer is provided between the first substrate unit and the second substrate unit and includes a first portion provided on a side of the first substrate unit and a second portion provided on a side of the second substrate unit. The first portion has a vertical alignment. The second portion has a horizontal alignment. A long axis of liquid crystal molecules in the second portion aligns along a second direction perpendicular to the first direction.

The liquid crystal optical element generates refractive index distribution functioning as a lens. The first electrodes are at positions corresponding to end portions of the lens and on the liquid crystal layer side of the first board. The second electrodes are at positions corresponding to discontinuity points of the lens and on the liquid crystal layer side of the first board. The third electrodes are at positions corresponding to lens surfaces of the lens and on the liquid crystal layer side of the first board. The fourth electrode is provided to the whole surface on the liquid crystal layer side of the second board and includes first cutout portions formed at parts opposing the third electrodes.

The first substrate unit includes a first substrate, first electrodes, and second electrodes. The first electrodes extend in a first direction. The second electrodes are disposed between the first electrodes. The second substrate unit includes a second substrate, a first opposing electrode, and a second opposing electrode. The second opposing electrode is separated from the first opposing electrode. The liquid crystal layer is provided between the first and second substrate units. The distance along the second direction between the central axis and a first separating region between the first opposing electrode and the second opposing electrode is longer than a distance between the central axis and the second electrode.

According to one embodiment, an image display device includes a liquid crystal lens device and an image display unit. The liquid crystal lens device includes a liquid crystal optical element unit. The liquid crystal optical element unit includes a first substrate unit, a second substrate unit and a liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer is provided between the first and second substrate units. The liquid crystal layer has an alignment twisted by an angle not less than 5 degrees and not more than 45 degrees along a normal axis of a major surface of the first substrate unit. The image display unit includes a display unit. The second substrate unit is disposed between the first substrate unit and the display unit.

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal layer exhibiting Kerr effect, a first electrode including combtooth portions, a second electrode, and protruding portions facing a main surface of the liquid crystal layer with at least one of the first and second electrodes interposed therebetween. The combtooth portions each extends in a first direction and are arranged in a second direction. The second electrode includes a portion that faces the main surface and is positioned in a gap between the combtooth portions or faces the main surface with the gap interposed therebetween. The protruding portions each extends in the first direction and are arranged in the second direction. Each of the first protruding portions forms a convex surface having a ridge shape on a surface of the combtooth portion or a surface of the portion of the second electrode positioned at the gap.

The second substrate opposes the first substrate. The opposing electrode is provided on the second substrate to oppose the first electrodes. The liquid crystal layer is provided between the first substrate unit and the second substrate unit. The first side surface has a first protruding portion and a first recessed portion arranged with the first protruding portion in the first direction.

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal/polymer complex includes a liquid crystal material, a polymer, and a chiral agent. The liquid crystal material exhibits blue phase and contains liquid crystal molecules that are spirally arranged to form liquid crystal molecular cylinders having a spiral arrangement. The polymer maintains the arrangement and has a dendrimer-type structure including a dendrimer unit and a polymerizable unit bonded to an end of the dendrimer unit. The dendrimer unit contains a central atom and at least two branched structures bonded to the central atom and has a generation of two or more. The polymerizable unit contains a polymerizable group which can bond to a polymerizable group.
