The positions at which electrode pads are arranged can be made more flexible, and electrical interconnects to be installed can be reduced. In addition, the degree of integration of a chip increases, making it possible to realize a large-scale device (optical switch etc.). In an optical module of the present invention, an interposer (an electrical connection intermediary component with electrode pins attached onto upper and lower faces in an array) is laid over a chip that includes a device configured by using a planar lightwave circuit (PLC) fixed onto a fixing metal plate, and a control substrate for driving the device is laid over the interposer. These components are mechanically fixed by a fixing screw or the like, and the electrode pads of the chip and the control substrate are connected to each other via the interposer.

Optical module

A problem is to provide a planar lightwave circuit optical device capable of facilitating mounting of connection to a printed circuit board and realizing downsizing of a device chip. A planar lightwave circuit optical device of the present invention is characterized by mounting an electrical connector (FPC connector) by means of soldering on an electrode pad of an electrical wire connected to an electrical drive unit (such as a heater) in a device formed by using a planar lightwave circuit (PLC).

Planar-lightwave-type optical device

A first optical waveguide layer and a second optical waveguide layer are optically connected by a resin optical waveguide composed of a resin core composed of a light-transmitting resin and a cladding composed of air surrounding the resin core. A hollow outer wall structure that houses the resin optical waveguide is provided. An enclosed space is provided inside the outer wall structure. The outer wall structure is disposed to bridge the gap between the first optical device and the second optical device.

Optical connection structure and method for forming same

A connection structure of optical waveguide chips includes a base substrate () in which grooves () are formed, spacer optical fibers () each disposed for a corresponding one of the grooves () and fitted in the groove () while partially projecting from the base substrate (), and silica-based PLCs () that are a plurality of optical waveguide chips in each of which grooves () fitted on the projecting portions of the spacer optical fibers () are formed at positions of an optical waveguide layer () facing the grooves (), and each of which is mounted on the base substrate () while being supported by the spacer optical fibers (). The silica-based PLCs () are mounted on the base substrate () such that incident/exit end faces of the optical waveguide layers () face each other.

Connection structure of optical waveguide chips

An optical connection structure includes a PLC that is an optical waveguide chip including an optical waveguide and at least one groove formed on a substrate, and at least one optical fiber that is fitted into the at least one groove of the PLC. The PLC includes the optical waveguide, at least one grating coupler that is optically connected to the optical waveguide, and the at least one groove formed at a position in a vicinity of the at least one grating coupler in a cladding layer in which the optical waveguide is formed. An optical fiber of the at least one optical fiber is fitted into a groove of the at least one groove such that an end surface of the optical fiber is located in a vicinity of a grating coupler of the at least one grating coupler, the optical fiber being optically connected to the grating coupler.

Optical connection structure

A connection structure for optical waveguide chips includes a silica-based PLC in which grooves are formed, spacer steel balls fitted in the grooves, and silica-based PLCs in which grooves into which the spacer steel balls to be fitted are formed, the silica-based PLCs being mounted on the silica-based PLC by being supported by the spacer steel balls. A conductor wire formed in the silica-based PLC and a conductor wire formed in the silica-based PLC are electrically connected to each other by a conductor film formed in the groove, the spacer steel balls and a conductor film formed in the groove.

Connection structure for optical waveguide chip

A signal processing circuit is provided that generates output signals to be output from spatially different output ports based on bit combinations of an input word consisting of a plurality of bit signals. A distributed memory, a ROM and a DAC in which the signal processing circuit is used are also provided. A recognition circuit includes a serial port to which a bit signal is input and 2output ports recognizing an input N-bit word and corresponding uniquely to 2bit combinations. Output ports of the recognition circuit are connected to 2input ports of an electric circuit. With no signal input to the recognition circuit, all outputs are constantly in a Low level state. In a case where a bit signal is input to the serial port of the recognition circuit, only one of the output ports corresponding to the bit combinations turns to a High level state.

A hydrogen production system that achieves a highly-efficient hydrogen production operation even when a time-varying electric power source is used is provided. A hydrogen production system includes a capacitor inputting electric power energy from a renewable power supply, and storing electric power, a pulse voltage generation unit generating a pulse voltage having a set amplitude and a set cyclic period by using the electric power stored in the capacitor, and an electrolytic cell applying the generated pulse voltage, and generating hydrogen by high temperature steam electrolysis by using steam supplied into the electrolytic cell.

Hydrogen production system and method for producing hydrogen

A hydrogen production system that achieves highly-efficient hydrogen production even when hydrogen is produced by using the plurality of cell stacks is provided. A hydrogen production system includes a plurality of cell stacks provided within a reaction containment, the cell stacks generating hydrogen by high temperature steam electrolysis by supplying steam to the plurality of cell stacks, a first flow path guiding the steam to each of the cell stacks, a second flow path causing a carrier gas containing air as a main component to flow into the reaction containment, and a flow regulation device provided at an inlet of the steam in each of the cell stacks, the flow regulation device regulating a flow rate of the steam caused to flow into each of the cell stacks to be uniform.

Provided is an optical module capable of inhibiting both the displacement of an optical axis caused by thermal changes and property degradation in an optical functional circuit. The optical module includes: a planar lightwave circuit including a waveguide-type optical functional circuit and a waveguide region where only an optical waveguide is formed in contact with a side, wherein an emission end face where output light is emitted from the optical functional circuit, or an entrance end face where input light is entered to the optical functional circuit is formed in contact with the side; a fixing mount employed to hold the planar lightwave circuit only in the portion where the waveguide area is located; and an auxiliary mount employed to hold the planar lightwave circuit in contact with a side that is opposite the side where the emission end face or the entrance end face.
