A developing unit includes a chamber in which a developer material is held. The developer material is received from an external device through the developer material receiving opening. A developer guide member is disposed in the chamber and directly under the developer material receiving opening. The developer guide member extends in a first direction and guides the developer material in the first direction. A developer material transporting member is disposed between the developer material receiving opening and the developer guide member. The developer material transporting member extends in a second direction parallel to the first direction and transports the developer material in the second direction. An agitator is formed on the developer transporting member and is disposed directly under the developer material receiving opening.

A toner cartridge is supported on a supporting apparatus and includes a chamber that holds toner therein. A shutter has a first engagement portion and is slidably mounted on the toner cartridge and is configured to open and close the opening. A second engagement portion is formed on a body of the toner cartridge. The supporting apparatus includes a supporting surface that supports the toner cartridge thereon. A first limiting element limits movement of the toner cartridge in an insertion direction of the toner cartridge. A stopper limits movement of the shutter in the insertion direction when the toner cartridge is inserted into the supporting apparatus. A second limiting element engages the first engagement portion and the second engagement portion to limit movement of the toner cartridge in a pull-out direction of the toner cartridge and movement of the shutter in the pull-out direction.

A developer storage body includes a storage portion for storing a developer, an agitation member for agitating the developer stored in the storage portion, and a swing member that swings in the storage portion by contact with the agitation member. A fixed portion and a swing portion are provided at a second end portion of the swing member. The fixed portion is fixed to the storage portion. The swing portion swings in the storage portion.

A replaceable unit is removably inserted into an apparatus. An installation detecting board has a first edge, a second edge a third edge, and a fourth edge. The first edge is located on a side of the installation detecting board opposite the second edge. The third edge is located on a side of the installation detecting board opposite the fourth edge. The replaceable unit has a body in which a first positioning portion and a second positioning portion are formed. The first and second positioning portion are aligned in the longitudinal direction of the replaceable unit such that the first positioning portion abuts the first edge and the second positioning portion abuts the second edge. A retainer is mounted on the body, and abuts at least one of the third edge and the fourth edge to prevent the installation detecting board from moving relative to the body.

An image formation unit includes a first unit rotatably supporting an image carrier on which an electrostatic latent image is to be formed, and a second unit rotatably supporting a developer carrier configured to develop the electrostatic latent image with a developer. The first unit includes a first engagement portion formed at one end in the direction of the rotational axis of the image carrier, and a second engagement portion provided at a predetermined distance from the first engagement portion at the one end side. The second unit includes a first engaged portion engaged with the first engagement portion, a second engaged portion engaged with the second engagement portion, and a drive input portion provided between the first and second engaged portions and configured to rotate the developer carrier.

A developing apparatus is used in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus. Developing units form corresponding developer images. A frame holds the developing units therein in position so that the developing units are movable independently by a distance relative to the frame. An urging member is disposed across the frame and each developing unit and urges each developing unit against the frame. An elastic sealing member secured to the frame and in intimate contact with each of the developing units when the corresponding developing unit is attached to the frame. The sealing member seals a gap between the frame and each of the developing unit.
