Provided is a method of reactivating a used titania catalyst for hydrogenation treatment, capable of improving the catalytic activity of the used titania catalyst for hydrogenation treatment that is obtained by supporting a catalyst component on a titania support and exhibits reduced catalytic activity after having been used for hydrogenation treatment of a hydrocarbon oil, to a level comparable to that of a newly prepared fresh titania catalyst before use. The method of reactivating a used titania catalyst for hydrogenation treatment, the used titania catalyst for hydrogenation treatment being obtained by supporting a catalyst component on a titania support and exhibiting reduced catalytic activity after having been used for hydrogenation treatment of a hydrocarbon oil, includes: a coke removal step of removing a carbonaceous component on a surface of the used catalyst by heating the catalyst in an oxygen-containing gas atmosphere; an impregnation step of impregnating the carbonaceous component-removed catalyst obtained by the coke removal step with a saccharide-containing solution; and a drying step of drying the saccharide-impregnated catalyst obtained by the impregnation step, to obtain a catalyst in which a saccharide is supported.

This invention provides layered porous titanium oxide comprising an inorganic oxide as a core and titanium oxide deposited on the surface of the inorganic oxide, wherein the titanium localization index B/A represented by the ratio of the proportion of titanium (Ti) to the sum of the constituent metal (M) of the inorganic oxide and titanium (Ti) determined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) [B=Ti/(Ti+M)] to the bulk mixing molar ratio of titanium (Ti) to the sum of the constituent metal (M) of the inorganic oxide and titanium (Ti) [A=Ti/(Ti+M)] is 1.6 or more and the titanium oxide is deposited on the surface of the inorganic oxide so as to be chemically and/or microscopically united to the inorganic oxide and also provides a process for producing the same and a catalyst comprising the same. The layered porous titanium oxide of this invention has a regulated pore structure, a large specific surface area, and excellent mechanical strength and is useful as a catalyst or a catalyst carrier.

A method of preparing a catalyst, including molding a mixture of magnesium oxide with a binder selected from carbon, fatty acids having 12-22 carbon atoms, magnesium salts of fatty acids having 12-22 carbon atoms, carboxymethyl cellulose, a magnesium salt of carboxymethyl cellulose and polyvinyl alcohol and calcining the molded mixture to obtain a carrier having a specific surface area of 5 m /g of less. The carrier is impregnated with an aqueous solution containing Rh and/or Ru compounds for loading a catalytic metal component and then dried and calcined. The catalyst is used for reforming a lower hydrocarbon gas with steam and carbon dioxide or with carbon dioxide to produce a synthesis gas.

Disclosed are a catalyst for producing a synthesis gas using a carbon-containing organic compound as a raw material and a process for producing carbon monoxide. The process for producing carbon monoxide includes a step of reacting a carbon-containing organic compound with carbon dioxide in a pressurized condition to produce a synthesis gas, and a step of concentrating carbon monoxide in the thus obtained synthesis gas and is characterized in that the above-described catalyst is used as a catalyst in the synthesis gas producing step.

Disclosed is a process for producing a synthesis gas by an autothermal reforming method including a step of partially oxidizing a carbon-containing organic compound to produce a high temperature mixed gas, and a synthesis producing step of reacting the unreacted carbon-containing organic compound contained in the high temperature mixed gas with carbon dioxide and/or steam, wherein a catalyst having a considerably suppressed carbon deposition activity is used as a catalyst for the synthesis gas producing step. The catalyst is characterized in that the catalyst comprises a carrier formed of a metal oxide, and at least one catalytic metal selected from rhodium, ruthenium, iridium, palladium and platinum and supported on the carrier, in that the catalyst has a specific surface area of 25 m /g or less, in that metal ion of the carrier metal oxide has electronegativity of 13.0 or less, and in that the amount of the catalytic metal supported is 0.0005-0.1 mole %, in terms of a metal, based on the carrier metal oxide.
