A gelating agent for an alkaline cell is a cross-linked polymer (A) comprising (meth)acrylic acid and/or its alkali metal salt as a main constituent monomer unit and obtained by an aqueous solution polymerization or a reversed phase suspension polymerization and satisfies the following required conditions (1), (2). The gelating agent has good draining property, satisfactorily high speed charging property of the alkaline electrolytic solution and is therefore effective to produce cells with little unevenness of the charging amount of the electrolytic solution and having uniform quality by mass production and an alkaline cell using the gelating agent is provided with durable discharge time and remarkably excellent impact resistance for a long duration. The said required conditions are required condition (1); that the gelating agent contains 50% by weight or more of a particle whose swollen particle size becomes 300 to 4,000 &mgr;m when the gelating agent is swollen in an aqueous potassium hydroxide solution of 40% by weight concentration and required condition (2); that the aqueous potassium hydroxide solution of 40% by weight concentration containing 3% by weight of the gelating agent has 0 to 20 mm stringiness.

An interior base material is obtained by a method comprising a step of treating with a treating agent which comprises (A) a water-insoluble water-absorbent resin having a water absorbency to pure water for 50 to 1,000 ml/g and a particle size of 0.1 to 100 .mu.m, (B) a polyoxyalkylene nonionic surfactant and/or an anionic surfactant, and (C) a solvent having the boiling point of 50 to 250.degree. C. A process for printing the thus-treated interior base material comprises applying a dye ink having a viscosity of 1 to 100 cps by an ink-jet method, or applying a textile printing dye paste having a viscosity of 100 to 10,000 cps by a textile printing method followed by a heat-color developing treatment. The present invention provides a printed object with excellent sharpness, penetration effect enabling uniform printing from the surface to the deep part of the base material even to a base material having a thick three-dimentional structure or a base material having a long pile and thickness such as moquette, with an excellent build-up.

A diffusing device containing a fragrance or deodorant material includes a gel of a water swellable/water absorbing resin carrying the fragrance and/or deodorant components. The fragrance or deodorant release device can be readily produced on an industrial scale, is easy for a user to handle, and employs a water swellable/water absorbing resin. The gel is produced by enclosing a water swellable/water absorbing resin in a water resistant container, such as a packet, having a water permeable portion and immersing the packet into an aqueous medium containing the fragrance and/or deodorant components whereby the resin absorbs the fragrance and/or deodorant components.

A material for treating excretions of pet animals which is obtainable by combining pulp (A), inorganic substance (B), guar gum (C) and optionally water-absorbent resin (D) to form guranules. The weight ratios of (A) to (B) to (C) to (D) is 15-55:15-55:5-40: 5-45. The treating material is capable of absorbing liquids from excretions quickly, forming into clumps when absorbing liquid and maintaining the shape of the clump even when handled for removal.

Materials for the treatment of pet excretions

The present invention relates to an interior base material suitable for a pigment ink printing process on which an organic-solvent-soluble synthetic resin (A) and a water insoluble-water absorbing resin having water absorption ability against pure water of 50 to 1,000 ml/g (B) are applied, the interior base material having a printed image with a pigment ink. The invention further relates to a method of printing an interior base material comprising the steps of, applying 0.01 to 50 weight percent with respect to the base material of each of an organic-solvent-soluble synthetic resin (A) and a water insoluble-water absorbing resin having water absorption ability to pure water of 50 to 1,000 ml/g (B), applying a pigment ink having viscosity of 5 to 10,000 cps by ink-jet printing or gravure printing, and drying. This invention enables printing with excellent sharpness, uniformity to the deep part of the interior base material, and excellent build up.
