Polyalkylene glycol compound

A lubricating oil composition may have a high flash point, a low pour point, and excellent electrical insulation, while having excellent cooling performance. Such a lubricating oil composition may include a base oil (A), wherein the base oil (A) includes at least one synthetic oil (A1) selected from a polyalkylene glycol having a specific degree of polymerization and a polyvinyl ether having a specific degree of polymerization.

A traction drive fluid composition which comprises component (A) a base oil for traction drives bearing at least one selected from a quaternary carbon atom or an alicyclic structure in the molecule and component (B) at least one polymer having a weight average molecular weight in the range of 8,000 to 40,000 and which is selected from among (a) hydrocarbon polymers each containing as a constituent at least 10 mole % of a monomer bearing a cyclic structure, (b) hydrocarbon polymers each containing at least 25% of quaternary carbon atoms in the backbone chain, and (c) hydrogenated products from the polymers (a) and (b). A bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane derivative represented by following general formula (1): wherein Rand Reach represent hydrogen atom or methyl group, and Rrepresents methyl group or ethyl group. The derivative is suitable as a high viscosity hydrocarbon base material used for tackfiers for adhesives and process oils for rubber and resins.

Bicyclo[2.2.1] heptane derivative

A fluid for traction drives for automobiles which comprises (A) a hydrocarbon compound having two bridged rings selected from bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane ring, bicyclo[3.2.1]octane ring, bicyclo[3.3.0]octane ring and bicyclo[2.2.2]octane ring and (B) a hydrocarbon compound having at least one structure selected from quaternary carbon atom and ring structures and having a kinematic viscosity at 40&#xb0; C. of 10 mm/s or smaller, and has a viscosity at &#x2212;40&#xb0; C. of 40,000 Pa&#xb7;s or smaller and a flash point of 140&#xb0; C. or higher, is provided. This fluid exhibits a great traction coefficient at high temperatures and very small viscosity at low temperatures. A fluid for traction drives which comprises a specific bicyclo[2,2,1]heptane derivative having 14 to 17 carbon atoms and having a viscosity index of 0 or greater is also provided. This fluid exhibits improved viscosity-temperature characteristics, decreased viscosity and improved fluidity at low temperatures.

The invention provides processes for the recovery of a catalyst which are to be applied to the reactions wherein boron trifluoride or a complex thereof is used as the catalyst, that is, (I) a process for the recovery of a catalyst which comprises using as the reaction solvent a solvent containing a hydrofluorocarbon compound and/or an oxygenic hydrofluorocarbon compound and, after the completion of the reaction, separating the reaction solvent from the reaction mixture; and (II) a process for the recovery of a catalyst which comprises extracting boron trifluoride or a complex thereof from the reaction mixture after the completion of the reaction by using a hydrofluorocarbon compound and/or an oxygenic hydrofluorocarbon compound as the extracting solvent. According to the processes, boron trifluoride or complexes thereof used as catalyst can be easily separated from the reaction mixtures and re-used.

Processes for the recovery and recycling of boron trifluoride or complexes thereof

The invention relates to economical and efficient methods for producing 2-methylene-3-methylbicyclo[2,2,1]heptane, 2,3-dimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]hept-2-ene and the like that are useful for materials of producing base oil of traction drive fluid for traction drive lubricating oil. The methods comprise reacting one or more Cacyclic olefins with cyclopentadiene and isomerizing the resulting bicyclo[2.2.1]heptene derivatives in the presence of an isomerization catalyst to give one or more bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane derivatives.

Process for preparing bicylo[2.2.1] heptane derivatives

Derivatives of bicyclo&lsqb;2.2.1&rsqb;heptane in the invention have a high traction coefficient under high temperature and an excellent viscosity characteristic under low temperature and are useful for the fluid for a traction drive, and a method in the invention produces such derivatives economically and efficiently.
