A silver halide color photographic light-sensitive material containing a specific naphthol cyan dye forming coupler is disclosed. Dye images formed by this coupler are excellent in fastness to heat and light and in sharpness, and are free from adverse influences of a bleaching solution having weak oxidative activity or a fatigued bleaching solution.

A process for forming a color filter, which comprises patternwise exposing a black-and-white silver halide emulsion layer of a photographic material comprising a support having thereon at least one black-and-white silver halide emulsion layer, developing the photographic material with a developing solution containing a color dye developer to form a pattern containing a color dye for a pattern containing at least one dye, and removing remaining silver and/or silver halide. The patternwise exposure and color coupler containing development steps can be repeated using different color couplers to produce patterns with additional color dyes.

A color photographic light-sensitive material is described containing a cyan dye forming coupler represented by formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group; R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 each represents hydrogen, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, an alkoxy group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an alkylcarbonyl group, an arylcarbonyl group, an alkylcarbamoyl group, an arylcarbamoyl group wherein said groups may be substituted or unsubstituted, or a nitryl group; and X represents hydrogen or a coupling-off group; also a double bond may be formed between the carbon atom at the 3-position and the carbon atoms at the 4-position. The color photographic light-sensitive material provides color images having excellent fastness to light and heat.

The dyes formed from the cyan color-forming couplers have unusually good spectral absorption properties and exceptional fastness to light and heat.

Color photographic materials containing cyan color-forming couplers

A multilayer color photographic material having at least one red sensitive silver halide emulsion layer containing a cyan coupler of the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein X represents a hydrogen atom or a chlorine atom and n is a positive integer of 8 to 20, is processed by a color developer containing a developing agent of the formula (II): ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 each represents a hydrogen atom, a chlorine atom, a methyl group, an ethyl group, a methoxy group or an ethoxy group; R.sub.5 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, an alkoxyalkyl group wherein the number of carbon atoms in said alkyl moiety is 1 to 4, or a group of the formula --(CH.sub.2).sub.m R.sub.6 ; R.sub.6 represents a hydroxy group, a methylsulfonamido group, or an ethylsulfonamido group; and m represents a positive integer of 1 to 4.
