The present invention has an object to provide a steel for a chimney or a gas duct, which is excellent in pitting resistance and rust adhesion in a corrosive environment caused by combustion waste gas in a plant in which the combustion of natural gas occurs. An apparatus for feeding waste tire chips to an incinerator comprises a chip container having a front wall, a rear wall and an outlet at the lower end of the front wall, and a screw feeder having a shaftless helical screw blade provided at an inner bottom portion of the container. The screw blade has one end supported by a first bearing provided on the rear wall of the container and the other end projecting from the outlet of the container. The other end of the screw blade is supported by a second bearing disposed outside the container outlet. Waste tire chips can be fed to the incinerator stably at all times.

A system for recovering as power the pressure and sensible heat of the gas discharged from the top of a blast furnace by guiding the gas to a dry-type dust collector for the removal of dust while maintaining the gas at the furnace top pressure and introducing the gas into a turbine for expansion. To protect the dry-type dust collector when the gas is run off from the furnace at an abnormally high temperature, a gas channel extending from the furnace to the dust collector is provided with at least one injector, which injects a cooling fluid into the gas in response to a signal from a temperature detecting sensor disposed close to the gas outlet of the dust collector. The sensor which is positioned near the dust collector outlet detects the temperature without the time delay attributable to the deposition of dust. With use of the dry-type dust collector, the gas can be fed to the turbine almost without cooling for the recovery of an increased amount of power.

A system for generating power with the top pressure of a plurality of blast furnaces by leading a gas from the top of the furnaces into turbines, corresponding in number to the furnaces, to convert the pressure of the gas into rotational energy and generate power by a generator coupled to the turbines. The turbines connected to the furnaces by main gas channels individually are aligned with their rotor shafts connected together into a single shaft which is connected to the generator. Preferably each pair of the adjacent turbines are arranged with their intake ends positioned in the center of the arrangement so that the gas flows toward the exhaust ends at both sides, or with their intake ends positioned at both sides to cause the gas to flow toward the exhaust ends in the center. The single shaft connecting the pair of turbines together has no intermediate bearing between these turbines.

A rotary transfer press comprising a crown, a bed, a post extending from the bed to the crown, a slide upwardly and downwardly movable as guided along the post, a drive assembly for moving the slide upward and downward, a plurality of working stations disposed in a circular arrangement and each provided with a press die, and a transport assembly for transferring workpieces from each of the stations to the next station in succession. The press can be installed in a small space, and the workpieces are feedable to and dischargeable from the press at any of the stations. The press dies are also replaceable at any station.

A marine Diesel engine consists of parallel left and right engines mounted on a common bed plate having integral independent columns on which the cylinders of the engine are supported, the bed plate and columns forming the crank chambers of the engines. A single propeller shaft is driven at a desired low r.p.m. from the crank shafts of the engines through a gearing device consisting simply of a gear on the propeller shaft meshing with a pair of pinions each connected to one of the engine crank shafts by an elastic coupling. As compared with a conventional single bank Diesel engine, such a twin bank Diesel engine permits a ship of given dwt to be driven at the same speed with appreciable savings in fuel consumption, in engine weight, and in engine room size with a corresponding increase in cargo carrying capacity.
