Pressure is applied at a plurality of locations to the driving roller of a peripheral driving veneer lathe. The pressure at each location is selectively and independently controlled to achieve a desired degree of engagement by the driving roller over the surface of a bolt to be lathed.

Method for applying pressure to a driving roller for a veneer lathe

In a veneer lathe having a pair of left and right double spindles, a small spindle is inserted in a large spindle in such a manner that the small one is relatively transferred in the axial direction freely and also is relatively rotated freely in the structure of the large one. Either one of the large or small spindle is driven at the one side of the left and right sides by a driving source at a required revolution.

A veneer splicing apparatus comprising a veneer detector for detecting the irregular portions of a veneer, disposed before a cutting tool which reciprocates toward and away from conveying means capable of being optionally driven or stopped, with respect to the direction of feeding a veneer; a delivery conveyor disposed after the cutting tool; veneer supporting members each disposed between the cutting tool and the delivery conveyor with one end thereof directed toward the cutting tool and with the other end thereof pivotally supported; an adhesive material feed device to feed adhesive materials, such as adhesive tapes or adhesive-impregnated yarns, near to the veneer cutting position of the cutting tool; said cutting tool or a tool holder being provided with an appropriate number of guide grooves at an appropriate distance away from the cutting edge of the cutting tool; and pressing members integrally mounted on the tool holder on both sides, with respect to the direction of feeding a veneer, of the cutting tool by means of the guide grooves so that the pressing members are capable of being reciprocated toward and away from the veneer cutting position.

Veneer splicing apparatus

A method and apparatus of splicing a train for veneer sheets being fed in a horizontal direction on infeed and outfeed conveyors operated by electric sensors that signal the conveyors to start or to stop at predetermined appropriate times when the preceding and succeeding veneer sheets pass certain predetermined positions, coordinated with application of a strand and beads of a thermoplastic adhesive onto said train of the veneer sheets on conveyors by a cold press. According to this method and apparatus, the splicing of veneer sheets may be achieved with an increased speed and strength of splicing in the transverse direction, in comparison with conventional method and apparatus.
