A process for producing a powdered carboxyl-containing polymer comprising mixing a solution of a water-insoluble polymer containing a carboxyl group per molecule in a hydrophilic organic solvent (e.g., ethanol) and an aqueous solution of a dispersant comprising a neutralized copolymer of a carboxyl-containing unsaturated monomer and a (meth)acrylic ester to precipitate the water-insoluble polymer. Fine polymer particles free from adhesion or agglomeration are obtained efficiently. Since any residual unreacted carboxyl-containing monomers are dissolved out in water as a precipitating solvent, the resulting powdered polymer has a reduced residual content of the unreacted monomers which may be poisonous and is therefore useful as a base resin of cosmetics or a coating resin for applications involving contact with the skin.

A thermoplastic resin film having a coated layer thereon, the coating layer comprising a quaternary ammonium salt copolymer comprising (a) a structural unit represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein A represents --O-- or --NH--; R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R.sup.2 represents an alkylene group having from 2 to 4 carbon atoms or --CH.sub.2 CH(OH)--CH.sub.2 --; R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, and R.sup.6, which may be the same or different, each represents an alkyl group having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R.sup.7 represents an alkyl group having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms or an aralkyl group having from 7 to 10 carbon atoms; n represents an integer of from 1 to 3; and X represents a chlorine atom, a bromine atom or an iodine atom, (b) a structural unit represented by formula (II): ##STR2## wherein R.sup.8 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; and R.sup.9 represents an alkyl group having from 1 to 22 carbon atoms, an aralkyl group having from 7 to 22 carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl group having from 5 to 22 carbon atoms, and (c) a structural unit derived from a monomer copolymerizable with monomers providing structural units (a) and (b) at a (a):(b):(c) weight ratio of 30 to 70:30 to 70:0 to 40. The thermoplastic resin film exhibits excellent offset printability and excellent antistatic properties.

A hair cosmetic composition containing a graft copolymer or an alternating block copolymer, each of which comprises a first unit containing a polysiloxane group and a second unit containing a polymer of unsaturated monomers is provided. The first and second units are linked by sulfide linkage. The hair cosmetic composition provides hair with softness, luster, combing smoothness, styling ease, enhanced volume, and has good hairstyle retainability and damage-restoring characteristics.

A color developer for pressure-sensitive copying paper is disclosed, containing a polyvalent metal-modification product of a p-substituted phenolformaldehyde condensate substantially terminated with an o-substituted phenol nucleus, with a content of a condensate component in which each of both terminal phenol nuclei thereof has a hydrogen atom at the o-position being not more than 20% by weight based on the total condensate. The color developer exhibits excellent color developability, undergoes no yellowing, and provides a color image having excellent water resistance.
