A contact configured to be retained and arranged in an insulating object includes a contact portion that is configured to come into contact with a counterpart object, a connecting portion connectable to an object to be connected, a main body portion having two side walls and a joining wall that joins the side walls, the main body portion having a substantially U-shaped cross section, first and second contact pieces protruding from the two side walls and extending along a direction of mating with a counterpart object, and first and second contact portions disposed at free end parts of the first and second contact pieces, respectively. The first and second contact portions each has a curved shape and configured to come into contact with the same surface of the counterpart object. The first and second contact portions are spaced apart along the direction of mating, the first and second contact portions being configured to come into roll-face contact with the counterpart object.

The surface of a member formed of at least one kind of ceramics, metals and C/C composites, is covered with an outermost surface oxide covering layer having a stability against the environment in the atmospheric air at 1500.degree. C.; and a self-recoverable layer as an intermediate layer formed between the outermost surface oxide covering layer and the surface of the member. The self-recoverable layer has an oxidizing rate greater than that of the outermost surface covering layer for recovering cracks generated on the outermost surface covering layer, and a compound produced by the self-recoverable layer has the same phase as in the outermost surface covering layer. To achieve the optimum self-recovering function at high temperatures, the outermost surface oxide covering layer may be made of a stable oxide having a vapor pressure of 1.times.10.sup.-4 /m.sup.2 or less in the atmospheric air at 1500.degree. C., and the oxidized product material from the self-recoverable layer contains an oxide having the same composition as that of the outermost surface oxide covering layer.

An interface connector is disclosed which is inexpensive to manufacture and easy to assemble and able to maintain a sufficient strength of hooks when being engaged with a mating connector. An insulator of the connector covered with a shell includes flanges. Each of the flanges is provided with an engaging aperture having a size allowing a hook to be inserted thereinto in the surface of the flange on the fitting side with a mating connector and a further engaging aperture having a size allowing an earth plate to be inserted thereinto in the end surface of the flange. The present invention relates to a chemical luminescence-detecting apparatus that is provided with a plurality of optical detectors different in sensitivity in the vicinity of a photometric cell. A ratio of outputs from the optical detectors based on intensity of luminescence is previously determined and stored. Signal processing can multiply an output of a low sensitivity optical detector by a factor determined by the stored ratio to measure the intensity of luminescence so that a conversion value corresponding to an equivalent output from a high sensitivity optical detector may be obtained when the output from the high sensitivity optical detector has become saturated.

An apparatus for erasing information recorded on a magnetic tape wound into a roll having a diameter. The apparatus comprises an erasing coil wound in the form of a solenoid defining a space therein. The space has a width shorter than the diameter of the magnetic tape roll and a length longer than the diameter of the magnetic tape roll. The magnetic tape roll is moved intermittently to different erasing positions in a predetermined sequence so that the magnetic tape roll has different portions placed in the space at the respective erasing positions. A ringing signal is applied to the erasing coil to provide a magnetic field in the space for erasing information recorded on the magnetic tape roll each time the magnetic tape roll is placed at one of the erasing positions.

The present invention relates to a method of measuring a concentration of a substance in an enzyme immuno assay system comprised of two optical detectors and a method of calibrating the same. A calibration curve is prepared by the use of the standard samples having known concentrations to be memorized, the standard samples being measured by the two optical detectors, conversion values of outputs from two optical detectors being determined from the resulting measured values, and the calibration curve being corrected on the basis of the conversion values of outputs to establish a new one-piece continuous calibration curve.
