Embossed metallic flakelets have high damage resistance and can be produced readily. A method for production is also provided. The embossed metallic flakelets are produced by dip-coating an organic-inorganic composite layer,on upper and lower sides of a carrier layer made of a PVA film or the like by a sol-gel process, and pressing an original embossed pattern,having an embossed pattern against the organic-inorganic composite layer,under pressure to transfer the embossed pattern onto the organic-inorganic composite layer,. A sample having the transferred embossed pattern is sintered, to form a metallic film,on the organic-inorganic composite layer,by deposition or the like. The organic-inorganic composite layer,is dip-coated on the metallic film,by a sol-gel process, they are sintered, the carrier layer is dissolved in water to separate the metallic film,which is held between the organic-inorganic composite layers,on the upper and lower sides of the carrier layer, and the separated metallic film,is pulverized into embossed metallic flakelets.

Embossed metallic flakelets and method for producing the same

A high-strength aluminum alloy having good porthole extrudability is provided. It has a Vickers hardness Hv of not less than 40 as measured in a homogenized state created by heat treatment before extrusion and a Vickers hardness Hv of not less than 20 imparted by plastic working after the heat treatment.

A metallic foil,is first pressed between a cooperative pair of dies,having mutually complementary embossed patterns to thereby transfer to the surfaces of the metallic foil,the embossed pattern of the dies,Finally, the pulverized metallic flakelets are mixed with predetermined other ingredients to make a hologram pigment.

Method for producing embossed metallic flakelets

Embossed metallic flakelets have high damage resistance and can be produced readily. A method for production is also provided. The embossed metallic flakelets are produced by dip-coating an organic-inorganic composite layer 12 on upper and lower sides of a carrier layer made of a PVA film or the like by a sol-gel process, and pressing an original embossed pattern 14 having an embossed pattern against the organic-inorganic composite layer 12 under pressure to transfer the embossed pattern onto the organic-inorganic composite layer 12. A sample having the transferred embossed pattern is sintered, to form a metallic film 10 on the organic-inorganic composite layer 12 by deposition or the like. The organic-inorganic composite layer 12 is dip-coated on the metallic film 10 by a sol-gel process, they are sintered, the carrier layer is dissolved in water to separate the metallic film 10 which is held between the organic-inorganic composite layers 12 on the upper and lower sides of the carrier layer, and the separated metallic film 10 is pulverized into embossed metallic flakelets.

The present invention provides a process for producing aluminum oxide fibers and, particularly, a process for producing aluminum fibers that have a high aspect ratio and can be accurately aligned, said process for producing aluminum oxide fibers comprising the steps of: uniformly mixing an aluminum or aluminum alloy powder with a boron oxide powder or a powder which, upon heating, can be converted to a boron oxide powder; and heating the mixed powder, or comprising the steps of: mixing not more than 50% by weight, in terms of titanium, of a titanium or titanium alloy powder to the starting mixture; and heating the mixed powder.

Process for producing aluminum oxide fibers

To provide a high-strength, high-ductility cast aluminum alloy, which enables a near-net shape product to be produced by improving the casting structure of an aluminum alloy, particularly by using specific constituents and controlling the cooling rate, and a process for producing the same. The high-strength, high-ductility cast aluminum alloy of the present invention is characterized in that it has a structure comprising fine grains of .alpha.-Al, having an average grain diameter of not more than 10 .mu.m, surrounded by a network of a compound of Al-lanthanide-base metal, the .alpha.-Al grains forming a domain, that the domain comprises an aggregate of .alpha.-Al grains which have been refined, cleaved, and ordered in a single direction and that it has a composition represented by the general formula Al.sub.a Ln.sub.b M.sub.c wherein a, b, and c are, in terms of by weight, respectively 75%.ltoreq.a.ltoreq.95%, 0.5%.ltoreq.b&lt;15%, and 0.5%.ltoreq.c&lt;15%.

A high strength aluminum alloy is expressed by a general formula, Al.sub.a X.sub.b Mm.sub.c, in which 'X' stands for at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zr, 'Mm' stands for a misch metal, a content 'a' of aluminum falls in a range of from 95.2 to 97.5 atomic %, and a content 'b' of 'X' and a content 'c' of the 'Mm' fall in a hatched area enclosed by points 'A,' 'B,' 'C' and 'D' of accompanying FIG. 1 on atomic % basis, and whose metallic phase includes microcrystalline phases or mixed phases containing amorphous phases in a volume content of less than 50% and the balance of microcrystalline phases. As a result, the amorphous phases or the microcrystalline phases are dispersed uniformly in its base microcrystalline phases appropriately, and at the same time the thus generating base microcrystalline phases are reinforced by forming solid solutions including the 'Mm' and the transition metal element 'X' as well. Hence, the high strength aluminum alloy comes to have a low specific gravity and a high strength which have not been available from conventional Al amorphous alloys.
