An object of the present invention is to provide a driver IC and a liquid crystal display apparatus which uses a circuit of an output channel which is not used to drive a liquid crystal panel as a backup of the other output channel. A driver IC includes a plurality of output channels chto chn, a plurality of output buffer circuits corresponding to each of the plurality of output channels chto chn, and an output channel selection circuit, and when a malfunction occurs in the output buffer circuit of an effective channel, the output buffer circuit in which the malfunction occurs is automatically switched to the output buffer circuit of an ineffective channel so that the output of the signal from the effective channel is continued.

Driver IC and liquid crystal display apparatus

Image signal line driving circuits each include a timing controller that generates a control signal to control the image signal line driving circuit itself and a different image signal line driving circuit. A master belonging to the image signal line driving circuits has a function of applying the control signal to a slave belonging to the image signal line driving circuits. The image signal line driving circuits each include an abnormality detecting circuit that detects an operation abnormality in the image signal line driving circuit itself, and a master/slave switching circuit that sets the image signal line driving circuit itself as the master or slave image signal line driving circuit. When detecting an abnormality, the abnormality detecting circuit outputs a master/slave switching signal, thereby switching the slave image signal line driving circuit to the master and switching the master image signal line driving circuit to the slave.

Display

Each of image-signal-line drive circuits includes a timing controller that generates a control signal controlling itself and other image-signal-line drive circuit, and a master/slave selection circuit that sets itself as a master mode image-signal-line drive circuit or a slave mode image-signal-line drive circuit based on a selection signal to be given from outside. From among the plurality of image-signal-line drive circuits, the master mode image-signal-line drive circuit gives the control signal to the slave mode image-signal-line drive circuit.

Display device

An image display device includes: a source wiring; a first gate wiring intersecting the source wiring to scan a first pixel electrode corresponding to a first scanning period; a second gate wiring adjacent to the first gate wiring to scan a second pixel electrode corresponding to a second scanning period consecutive to the first scanning period; a read signal line disposed in parallel to the source wiring; a light sensing element connected to the second gate wiring and the read signal line; and a light detection circuit configured to detect the presence or absence of light directed at the light sensing element upon receiving an output of the light sensing element. The first pixel electrode and the second pixel electrode are AC driven in the same polarity. The output of the light sensing element is connected to the light detection circuit for a predetermined interval during the second scanning period.

Image display device

A liquid crystal display apparatus includes synchronization signal extracting means for extracting a vertical synchronization signal from a noninterlace signal, first reversal signal generating means for generating a first polarity reversal signal that causes reversal of polarity of a signal voltage every frame for a switching device associated with each of pixels according to the vertical synchronization signal, reversal control signal generating means for generating a reversal control signal according to a result of comparison between frames of the noninterlace signal, second reversal signal generating means for generating a second polarity reversal signal by reversing polarity of the first polarity reversal signal according to the reversal control signal, and switching device driving means for driving each of switching devices according to the second polarity reversal signal.

Liquid crystal display apparatus and alternating current driving method therefore

In the conventional method of achieving a fast response of a liquid crystal panel, even if the frame rate or the ambient temperature varies, if the image data are the same, the correction value will always be constant; accordingly, the conventional method is impossible of a correction in accordance with the environmental conditions in use. The liquid crystal display of the invention is provided with a plurality of look-up tables, each of which outputs a correction data for correcting an image data to increase the response speed of transmittance of the liquid crystal panel by using the two inputs of the input image data and the image data one frame before that an image memory storing the input image data outputs. The liquid crystal display selects one of the look-up tables in accordance with a frame rate that a frame rate detection circuit detects from the input image data, generates the correction data, and drives the liquid crystal panel using this correction data; thereby, the method of the invention increases the response speed in a change of the gradation.
