A digital image storage system includes a digital camera having a first terminal for data communication in accordance with a data communication interface standard and an adapter for the digital camera for communicating with the digital camera. The adapter has a second terminal for data communication in accordance with the same data communication interface standard as in the first terminal. The digital image storage system further includes a data storage having a third terminal for data communication in accordance with the same data communication interface standard as in the first terminal. The data storage is capable of communicating with the digital camera by way of the adapter through a connection between the third and the second terminals and also capable of directly communicating with the digital camera through a connection between the third and the first terminals.

An image storage for storing digital still image data is connected to a television set for selectively watching a broadcast program in a first mode or a still image transmitted from the image storage in a second mode. The image storage has an input circuit for receiving a control signal form the television set and an output circuit for transmitting a still image signal to the television set on the basis of the digital still image data, the output circuit being responsive to the control signal. The television set, on the other hand, has an output circuit for transmitting the control signal to the image storage. By means of the control signal, the image storage is automatically turned on or off when the television set is turned on or off, respectively. The control signal makes image storage operative or inoperative when the television set is in the second mode or in the first mode, respectively, to save power consumption with the television set in the first mode. The image storage may be further connected to a printer, wherein the image storage further has an output circuit for transmitting an output signal to the printer in response to the control signal from the television set, the output signal being an image signal to be printed or a control signal for the printer function.

A position detector displays a target on a given plane and adds a standard on the given plane in the vicinity of the target with the location of the standard known. An image of the given plane is formed on an image plane of an image sensor with an image of the standard included, a point in the image of the given plane which is formed at a predetermined position of the image plane corresponding to the point to be detected. An image processor identifies the image of the standard on the image plane to calculate the position of the point to be detected. The standard includes asymmetric pattern. The standard includes a first standard and a second standard sequentially added on the given plane, the difference being calculated accompanied with the plus sign or the minus sign. The image on the given plane is formed by means of a scanning, the image sensor reads out the sensed image upon the termination of at least one period of the scanning. The second standard is added upon the initiation of the scanning after the completion of reading out of the image of the first standard.

Position detector and attitude detector

A game machine displays a target on a display plane with four known points. An image sensor with an image plane on which an image of the display plane is formed with the known points included. The game machine calculates an attitude of the image plane relative to the display plane in response to the image of the known points on the image plane. The game machine causes a change in the target depending on the calculated attitude. The game machine calculates the position of a point on the display plane corresponding to a predetermined position on the image plane in response to the image of the known points on the image plane. The game machine compares the position of the target point with the calculated position to cause a change in the image of the target point on the display plane in response to the comparison.

A graphical user interface is proposed for generating an interface signal with a target on a display aimed. An image sensor has an image plane on which an image of the display including characteristic points is formed, a point of the image formed at a predetermined position of the image plane corresponding to the target. A processor calculates the position of the target on the display relative to the characteristic points on the basis of the output of the image sensor including the information of the positions of the characteristic points. And the interface signal is generated with the position of the target calculated. More specifically, the processor includes an image processor for identifying the positions of the characteristic points on the image plane, a first processor for calculating a first data on the basis of the positions of the characteristic points on the image plane, and a second processor for calculating a second data on the basis of the first data and the positions of the characteristic points on the image plane. This is not only useful in the graphical user interface, but also in detecting the position of a target point or the attitude of a three-dimensional object in general.
