A torque converter which is a hydraulic torque converter that transmits power via a fluid, includes: a shell which is connected to a power transmission source, and is rotated by the power of the power transmission source; an impeller blade which is fixed to an inner surface of the shell, and generates a flow in the fluid by rotating together with the shell; and a turbine runner which is connected to a power transmission destination, and is rotated by the flow of the fluid, in which the impeller blade has an inlet angle which is equal to or less than 0 degrees, and in which at least a part of an inlet portion to which the fluid enters is bent toward a rotational direction side of the impeller blade.

A stator wheel, located between a pump and a turbine of a torque converter, includes: a first annular portion configured to be rotatable about a center of rotation; a second annular portion away from the first annular portion in a radial direction of the first annular portion; and blades provided at intervals in a circumferential direction of the first annular portion, extending between the first and second annular portions in the radial direction of the first annular portion, extending toward one side in the circumferential direction as it goes in an axial direction of a rotational shaft, being formed integrally with the first and second annular portions, and including a first surface provided on one side in the circumferential direction and a second surface located on an opposite side from the first surface in the circumferential direction configured to receive pressure from the operating fluid flowing from the turbine.

A method for engagement of an impeller clutch includes a process for decreasing a back pressure relative to a clutch engagement pressure by decreasing an internal pressure of a torque converter in a case where the impeller clutch is brought into an engaged state, the impeller clutch enabling a driving force of an engine to be transmitted and disconnected to and from a pump impeller of the torque converter, transmission and disconnection of the driving force between the engine and the pump impeller being controlled by the clutch engagement pressure that is applied to the impeller clutch through an independent oil passage.

Control mechanism and method for engagement of impeller clutch

A vehicle control apparatus that controls a vehicle having a torque converter provided on a power transmission path between an internal combustion engine and a transmission is provided. The torque converter includes a pump impeller, to which rotational power from the internal combustion engine is input to rotate, a turbine runner that receives oil from the rotating pump impeller and transmits the rotational power toward the transmission, and an impeller clutch that is configured to connect and disconnect the rotational power transmission from the internal combustion engine to the pump impeller. The vehicle control apparatus controls the internal combustion engine and the impeller clutch, such that, when a throttle opening degree is equal to or larger than a first threshold value during control of the impeller clutch from a non-engaged state to a completely engaged state, lowers an output torque of the internal combustion engine.

A torque converter includes: a impeller having an outer shell, an inner core, and at least one pump blade provided between the outer shell and the inner core; a turbine having at least one turbine blade; and a stator capable of establishing a fluid circulation between the impeller and the turbine. A torque converter includes a front cover connected to an engine with a set block, a pump impeller integrally connected to the front cover, a turbine runner facing to the pump impeller and connected to an input shaft of a transmission, a lock-up clutch for engaging/disengaging the front cover relative to the input shaft through a damper, an engaging hydraulic pressure chamber separated from a power transmission hydraulic chamber surrounded by the pump impeller and the front cover, and that engaging pressure of the lock-up clutch is provided into the engaging hydraulic pressure chamber, a front cover hub, a piston inserted so as to slide in the engaging hydraulic pressure chamber, a clutch engaging portion operated to be engaged/disengaged by the piston, plural projection portions being projecting by stamping and welded to the front cover, and an oil path formed between the front cover and the front cover hub among the projection portions.

A torque converter is designed to control the torque capacity C and prevent a constant torque capacity C when the speed ratio E is in the middle to high operational range. The torque converter includes a bladed pump impeller driven by an internal engine, a bladed turbine runner in fluid flow relation with the pump impeller, and a bladed stator for redirecting fluid to produce a toroidal flow path of hydraulic fluid. The blades of the stator have an inlet portion facing the turbine runner and to which flows hydraulic fluid from the turbine runner, an outlet portion facing the pump impeller and discharging hydraulic fluid from the stator, a pressure surface disposed on one side of the blade between the inlet portion and the outlet portion, a suction surface disposed on another side of the blade, and a plate portion disposed near the inlet portion.
