A lithium ion secondary battery includes at least a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and an electrolyte. The positive electrode contains at least a first positive electrode active material and a second positive electrode active material. The first positive electrode active material is expressed with a formula (I) LiNiCoMnOand the second positive electrode active material is expressed with a formula (II) LiNiCoMnO, where a, b, c, d, e, and f satisfy conditions of a&#x3e;d, 0.4&#x2264;a&#x2264;0.6, 0.2&#x2264;b&#x2264;0.5, 0.1&#x2264;c&#x2264;0.2, a+b+c=1.0, 0.2&#x2264;d&#x2264;0.5, 0.1&#x2264;e&#x2264;0.2, 0.4&#x2264;f&#x2264;0.6, and d+e+f=1.

Lithium ion secondary battery and method of manufacturing the same

A lithium secondary battery of the present invention has a positive electrode is provided with a positive electrode mix layer that includes a positive electrode active material and a conductive material. The positive electrode mix layer has two peaks, large and small, of differential pore volume over a pore size ranging from 0.01 &#x3bc;m to 10 &#x3bc;m in a pore distribution curve measured by a mercury porosimeter. A pore size of the smaller peak B of the differential pore volume is smaller than a pore size of the larger peak A of the differential pore volume.

Lithium secondary battery

A positive electrode of a lithium-ion secondary battery contains first positive electrode active material particles and second positive electrode active material particles. The first positive electrode active material particles have a first composition represented by a compositional formula LiNiCoMnO(here, x1, y1, and z1 are numerical values satisfying 0&#x3c;x1&#x3c;1, 0&#x3c;y1&#x3c;1, 0.3&#x3c;z1&#x3c;0.5, and x1+y1+z1=1). The second positive electrode active material particles have a second composition represented by a compositional formula LiNiCoMnO(here, x2, y2, and z2 are numerical values satisfying 0&#x3c;x2&#x3c;1, 0&#x3c;y2&#x3c;1, 0&#x3c;z2&#x3c;0.2, and x2+y2+z2=1). The surface of at least one of the first positive electrode active material particles and the second positive electrode active material particles is coated with a transition metal oxide.

Lithium-ion secondary battery

A positive electrode includes first positive electrode active material particles and second positive electrode active material particles. The first positive electrode active material particles include 0.1% by mass or more and 1% by mass or less of lithium carbonate and a first lithium transition metal oxide as a remainder. The first lithium transition metal oxide is represented by LiMMnO(0.05&#x2264;z1&#x2264;0.20). The second positive electrode active material particles include 0.01% by mass or more and 0.05% by mass or less of lithium carbonate and a second lithium transition metal oxide as a remainder. Provided is a lithium ion secondary battery which has a low internal resistance in a low-SOC region and a sufficiently large amount of gas generated during overcharge. The lithium ion secondary battery disclosed herein includes an electrode body having a positive electrode and a negative electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolytic solution. The lithium ion secondary battery further includes a pressure-type safety mechanism. The nonaqueous electrolytic solution includes a gas generating agent. The positive electrode has a positive electrode active material layer including a positive electrode active material. The positive electrode active material includes a lithium transition metal composite oxide represented by LiNiCoMnOwherein a, b and c satisfy the following conditions: 0.35&#x2264;a&#x2264;0.45, 0.15&#x2264;b&#x2264;0.25, 0.35&#x2264;c&#x2264;0.45, and a+b+c=1, and a lithium transition metal composite oxide represented by LiNiCoMnOwherein x, y and z satisfy the following conditions: 0.35&#x2264;x&#x2264;0.45, 0.45&#x2264;y&#x2264;0.55, 0.05&#x2264;z&#x2264;0.15, and x+y+z=1, and the mass ratio of the oxides is 60:40 to 85:15.

A method of manufacturing a non-aqueous liquid electrolyte secondary battery is to manufacture a non-aqueous liquid electrolyte secondary battery including a positive electrode mixture layer containing a lithium-containing transition metal oxide as a positive electrode active material. The manufacturing method includes: mixing the positive electrode active material and an aromatic nitrile compound such that a mass ratio of the aromatic nitrile compound to the positive electrode active material is not less than 0.1% by mass and not more than 4% by mass, to prepare a mixture; mixing the mixture, a conductive material, a binder, and a solvent to prepare a granular body; and disposing the granular body on a surface of a positive electrode collector to form at least a part of the positive electrode mixture layer.

Method of manufacturing non-aqueous liquid electrolyte secondary battery

It is an object of the present invention to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery with superior high-temperature charge-discharge cycle characteristics as well as superior low-temperature high-rate charge-discharge cycle characteristics. A production method for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries includes a conditioning process in which an electrode group having a positive electrode and a negative electrode wound by interposing a separator therebetween is inserted inside a case a non-aqueous electrolyte including an overcharge additive is injected and the case is sealed, after which a restraining pressure is applied to the case, and charge/discharge is performed at least once. After initial charging in the conditioning process, a fracture portion is formed in secondary particles of a positive electrode active material, and then a conductive coating is formed on the fracture portion.

The present invention provides a non-aqueous electrode secondary battery supplied with a non-aqueous electrolyte comprising an overcharge additive. The positive electrode material layer constituting the positive electrode in the non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery is characterized by having a differential pore volume peak A as well as a peak B located on the smaller pore diameter side than the peak A in a pore diameter range of 0.05 &#x3bc;m to 2 &#x3bc;m in a pore size distribution curve measured by a mercury porosimeter, wherein the pore size distribution curve has a minimum C corresponding to a minimum differential pore volume between the peak A and the peak B, such that a ratio (X/X) of the minimum C's differential pore volume Xto a differential pore volume X, which is the larger between the peak A's differential pore volume Xand the peak B's differential pore volume Xis 0.6 or larger.

Method for fabricating a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery

The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery of the invention includes: a wound-type electrode group including a long positive electrode, a long negative electrode, and a separator disposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode; a nonaqueous electrolyte; and a prismatic battery case accommodating the electrode group and the nonaqueous electrolyte. A horizontal cross-section of the electrode group has a major axis and a minor axis. The positive electrode includes a positive electrode current collector and a positive electrode active material layer disposed thereon, and the negative electrode includes a negative electrode current collector and a negative electrode active material layer disposed thereon. A tensile strength of the positive electrode when an elongation percentage in a longitudinal direction of the positive electrode is 1% is not greater than 15 N/cm.

Nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery and method for manufacturing the same

A motor stator of the invention is provided with a laminated stator core comprising a plurality of core pieces having teeth and linked by intermediate thin-wall portions. The thin-wall portions are bent to form the stator core into an annular shape with two ends of the stator core joined by welding, and slots are formed between adjoining pairs of the teeth. A welded portion of the stator core is not near a center line in a radial direction of any of the slots.
