In the double row ball bearing, a plurality of balls are incorporated into a space between a first inner race raceway of an inner race and a first outer race raceway of an outer race, a plurality of balls are incorporated into a space between a second inner race raceway of the inner race and a second outer race raceway of the outer race, there is formed a counterbore portion at least in the outer race raceway of a pair of one-row side inner and outer race raceways, and the balls are incorporated in a maximum manner into a space between the pair of inner and outer race raceways which are so arranged as to include the outer race with the counterbore portion formed therein, to thereby make it possible to provide a double row ball bearing in which the rated load of one-row side raceway thereof can be selected up to its maximum with respect to the outside diameter dimension of an outer race thereof, and an excellent fatigue life can be attained.

A drive shaft for an automotive vehicle water pump has an outer race with plural outer raceways formed in an inner peripheral wall thereof, a shaft member disposed for rotation relative to the outer race and defining a like plural number of inner raceways formed in an outer peripheral wall of the shaft member in radial registration with the corresponding outer raceways, and a multiplicity of rolling elements arranged between the inner raceways and the corresponding outer raceways, respectively. The shaft member comprises a large-diameter bearing portion with the plural inner raceways formed in an outer peripheral wall thereof, a small-diameter impeller shaft portion extending from one end of the large-diameter bearing portion, a small-diameter pulley shaft portion, and a continuously-connecting portion extending between an opposite end of the large-diameter bearing portion and a proximal end of the small-diameter pulley shaft portion. The continuously-connecting portion presents a curved peripheral surface with circular arcs in tangential directions of which an outer peripheral wall of the small-diameter pulley portion extends.

A seal for a rolling bearing 30 applicable to a strut-type suspension has a sealing member 40 of the bearing provided with two lips 43 and 47. The lip 43 is at the radial inner side of the member 40 and slidably contacts the outer face of a piston rod 10. The other lip 47 is at the radial outer side of the sealing member so as to contact the outside surface of either a stationary bearing ring 32 or a holding case 38' therefor. The sealing member is further provided with a coupling head 45 engageable with the radial inner tip end portion of a rotary bearing ring 35 so that the sealing member can be made integral with the bearing 30.

In a rolling bearing for strut-type suspensions, a rotary bearing race 33 has, at its radially inner part, a cylindrical portion 37 having an outwardly extending flange 38. The radial inner end part 41 of the stationary bearing race 34 of the bearing is disposed at such a position so as to be overlapping with the outwardly extending flange 38. At least one of the above-mentioned members confronts and overlaps the other and includes a member having self-lubricating characteristics.
