A light-collecting type liquid crystal display device capable of displaying an image properly is provided. The liquid crystal display deviceincludes a liquid crystal panel; an irradiation section, a control device, and a plate-like memberattached to a part () of the liquid crystal panel. A light guiding sectionfor collecting natural lightand propagating the light is located on a first surfaceof the plate-like member; and the light guiding sectionis connected to the irradiation section. A plurality of optical sensorsare provided on the first surfaceof the plate-like member. The irradiation sectionincludes a plurality of LED elements. The control deviceis connected to an LED driving section. The control deviceis connected to the optical sensors. The control deviceis structured to control an amount of light to be emitted from each of the plurality of LED elementsby use of the LED driving sectionbased on the amounts of light detected by the optical sensors

Liquid crystal display device

A display device (liquid crystal display device) includes a display panel () (liquid crystal panel), light receiving sensors (first light receiving sensors), and an image changing section (). A display region () of the liquid crystal panel () has a plurality of pixels () located therein. The first light receiving sensors () receive external light directed to the liquid crystal panel (), at a plurality of positions in the display region (). In the image changing section (), a reference value is predefined for light receiving information (athrough d) obtained by the first light receiving sensors (). Display device

A light guide element includes a light-emitting section including a light-emitting surface, a light guide section, and a diffusing device provided in at least part of a region extending from a boundary surface between the light-emitting section and the light guide section, to point halfway between the boundary surface and an end of the light guide section closer to the light source. The light guide element might be used to form a backlight for a liquid crystal display device.

Light guide elements for display device

A backlight (illumination device;) of the present invention includes: multiple light sources (); multiple light guide plates (, . . . ) for causing surface emission of light from the light sources (); and a diffusing plate () for diffusing light from the light guide plates (, . . . ), the diffusing plate () being provided so as to be separate from and face the light guide plates (, . . . ). Each of the light guide plates (, . . . ) includes: a light-emitting section () having a light-emitting surface (); and a light guide section () for guiding, to the light-emitting section (), light from the light sources (), a light-emitting section () of the first light guide plate () being provided above a light guide section () of the second light guide plate () adjacent to the first light guide plate (). A light amount adjusting section () for reducing the amount of light incident on it is provided so as to be separate from the diffusing plate () and so that the orthogonal projection of the light amount adjusting section () onto the light-emitting region covers the boundary between any adjacent light guide plates (, . . . ). This allows for production of a tandem-type illumination device having further improved luminance uniformity.

Illumination device and liquid crystal display device

An illumination device includes a plurality of light source units () each having a light guide plate and at least one light source. The light guide plate is provided with an illumination region () through which an incident beam of light from the at least one light source is emitted outward and a light guide region () through which the incident beam of light from the at least one light source is guided toward the illumination region (), with the illumination region () and the light guide region () laid side-by-side. Light source units () adjacent to each other along a direction of an optical axis of the at least one light source are disposed so that the illumination region () of one of the light source units () covers at least a part of the light guide region () of the other light source unit (). A diffuse reflection sheet () and a specular reflection sheet () or a light absorption sheet are provided between the light guide plate (LG(k)) of the one of the light source units () and the at least one light source (BL(k+1)) of the other light source unit () in such a way as to be put on top of each other. This makes it possible to suppress uneven irradiation and improve luminance uniformity and color-mixing properties of a tandem illumination device having light guide plates disposed in such a way as to be overlapped.

Illumination device and display device

Each of light guides () has: a reflection surface (); and a light emitting surface () that is opposite to the reflection surface () and is not covered by a neighboring light guide (). The light emitting surface () is made up of a first emitting surface () and a second emitting surface (). The first emitting surface () is substantially parallel with the reflection surface ().
