An electric vehicle drive unit includes: first and second traveling motors that include first and second rotors, respectively; and a first planetary gear mechanism that includes first to third rotation element, The first rotation element is rotatably coupled to the first rotor. The second rotation element is rotatably coupled to the second rotor via a connection portion. The third rotation element is coupled to an output shaft coupled to a drive wheel side. Rotary axes in the first planetary gear mechanism, the first traveling motor and the second traveling motor are coaxially arranged. The electric vehicle drive unit further includes a clutch that disconnectably connects any two rotation elements among the first to third rotation elements to switch the two rotation elements to a directly coupled state at the time of connection.

Electric vehicle drive unit

Motor-generators are incorporated in front wheels and drive the front wheels, respectively. An ECU determines whether or not a steering apparatus including a steering actuator, a tie rod and a steering angle sensor has failed, based on an operation angle of a steering wheel from a steering wheel angle sensor and a steering angle of the front wheels from the steering angle sensor. When the ECU determines that the steering apparatus has failed, the ECU provides torque difference for a torque instruction for the motor-generators in accordance with the operation angle of the steering wheel.

An in-wheel motor unit is suspended from a vehicle body and outputs torque from an internal motor to a wheel; and has a knuckle, which is suspended from the aforementioned vehicle body; an output shaft, which outputs motor torque to the wheel; a wheel hub, which rotates together with the wheel and is connected to the output shaft such that the output shaft and the wheel hub can rotate together; and a unit casing for the in-wheel motor unit, which houses the motor. The wheel hub is rotatably supported by a first part of the knuckle via a hub bearing, and the unit casing is fixed to a second part of the knuckle via a sleeve.

A cooling structure for an in-wheel motor includes an in-wheel motor mounted within a wheel of a vehicle to drive the wheel or to be driven by the wheel, and an oil channel and a fin serving as 'heat radiating portions' to facilitate cooling of the in-wheel motor. The in-wheel motor has a case serving as a 'housing'. The &#x201c;heat radiating portion&#x201d; is located apart from the case.

A breather device provided on the outer peripheral section of a case of an in-wheel motor is located at a position above the rotation shaft of the in-wheel motor, between the in-wheel motor and a wheel. The position is inside the wheel in the width direction of a vehicle.

The rotating shaft of the motor is connected to and disconnected from the first coupled rotating shaft, the crankshaft of the engine, and the drive shaft is connected to and disconnected from the second coupled rotating shaft and the third coupled rotating shaft. Thereby, the connection state when a power is output to the drive shaft can be increased and the power to the drive shaft can be output in a more efficient connection state in comparison with only connecting and disconnecting the rotating shaft of the motor to and from the first coupled rotating shaft and the crankshaft of the engine.

An electrically driven wheel includes a wheel disc and a wheel hub; an in-wheel motor mounted within the wheel disc to drive the wheel disc and the wheel hub or to be driven by the wheel disc and the wheel hub; a brake rotor and a brake caliper suppressing rotation of the wheel disc and the wheel hub while a vehicle is moving; and a parking lock mechanism provided in the in-wheel motor separately from a brake mechanism formed of the brake rotor and the brake caliper. The parking lock mechanism is a band-type brake frictionally engaging a planetary carrier serving as an 'output portion' of a 'reduction mechanism'.

An in-wheel motor includes a motor, a shaft, an oil pump and oil paths. The oil pump is provided on one end of the shaft. The motor includes a stator core, stator coils and a rotor. The oil pump pumps up an oil from an oil reservoir via an oil path to supply the pumped-up oil to another oil path. The another oil path supplies the oil from the oil pump to the outer periphery of the stator core of the motor from an opening end.

A wheel supporting apparatus includes dampers, ball joints, a knuckle, an upper arm and a lower arm. The dampers are attached to a case of an in-wheel motor in the top-bottom direction of the vehicle's body and are connected respectively to the ball joints. The upper arm and the lower arm have respective one-ends connected to respective dampers via the ball joints and respective other ends pivotably fixed to the vehicle's body. The knuckle is connected to the ball joints to rotatably support a wheel hub via hub bearings.

In-wheel motor with high durability

A frame for an electric motor is provided with a high heat discharge efficiency at low manufacturing cost wherein a plurality of cooling media paths, grooves, groove paths, media paths and communication paths are formed on the frame using a diecast process. A plurality of fins are formed in the grooves and a plurality of cooling media guide members are secured about the periphery of the frame to control the flow of the cooling media.

A shift-locking device for a vehicle transmission includes a manual shaft mechanically connected with a shift lever for rotating to a first position, a second position and a third position through operation of the shift lever, and mechanically connected to a parking control mechanism disposed in the transmission case. A first shift-locking shaft is connected to a brake pedal for rotating from a first position to a second position, and a locked member is provided on the manual shaft. A first lock member provided on the first shift-locking shaft is adapted to engage the locked member when the first shift-locking shaft is in the first position. A spring urges the first shift-locking shaft to the second position to release engagement between the locked member and the first lock member.
