A recording layer for an optical data recording medium according to one embodiment of the present invention makes it possible to record an information signal by irradiation with laser beam. The recording layer for an optical data recording medium comprises metal oxides including a Mn oxide, a W oxide, and a Sn oxide. The atomic ratio of Mn with respect to the total number of atoms of metal elements constituting the metal oxides is 3-40 atm %.

A dielectric layer is formed from an oxide containing Sn and at least one of Zn, Zr, Si and Ga. The molar percentages of Sn, Zn, Zr, Si, and Ga, relative to the total elements in the oxide, represented by a, b, c, d, and e, respectively, satisfy the conditions (1)-(7): (1) 0&#x2264;b/(a+b)&#x2264;0.6, (2) 0&#x2264;(c+d)/(a+b+c+d+e)&#x2264;0.5, (3) 0&#x2264;b&#x2264;50, (4) 0&#x2264;c&#x2264;40, (5) 0&#x2264;d&#x2264;45, (6) 0&#x2264;e&#x2264;40, and (7) 20&#x2264;b+c+d+e&#x2264;80. A recording layer excellent in recording property, an optical information recording medium including the recording layer, and a sputtering target for producing the recording layer. The recording layer on which recording is performed through irradiation with a laser light, contains: a Pd oxide; a Ag oxide; and an oxide of a metal X of having an absolute value of the standard free energy of oxide formation per 1 mol of oxygen that is larger than an oxide of Pd and Ag, wherein a ratio of Pd atom to a total (metal X atom+Pd atom+Ag atom) is from 10 to 60 atomic %, a ratio of Ag atom to the total is from 5 to 45 atomic %, and a ratio of Pd atom and the Ag atom to the total is 75 atomic % or less.

An optical information recording medium of the present invention is a read-only optical information recording medium in which at least one reflective film formed of an Al-based alloy and at least one light transmission layer are successively laminated on a substrate. The arithmetical mean roughness of the reflective film is 0.5 nm or less, and the thickness of the reflective film is 25 nm or more. The optical information recording medium of the present invention is the read-only optical information recording medium including the reflective film which has a high reflectivity and low jitter, preferably has excellent durability, and is used particularly appropriately in an optical disc using a blue laser such as BD-ROM or HD DVD-ROM.

A pirated optical recording medium may be determined which is produced by physically transferring a shape of pits and lands formed on a substrate of an optical recording medium. The optical recording medium is provided with excellent weatherability and long-term storage reliability. A reflective film formed of an Ag alloy film of AgXCu, where X is at least one element among Ti, W, Ta, V, Mo, Nb and Zr, is formed on a substrate on which main data is recorded with a combination of pits and lands. A mark may be formed so that a reproduction signal level in the recorded mark of auxiliary data write once recorded on the reflective film is increased, and a reproduction signal level is decreased in an optical recording medium prepared by physically transferring the surface shape of the pits and lands of the substrate. A pirated optical recording medium may be determined in this manner.

The invention relates to an Ag-based alloy sputtering target including at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ti, V, W, Nb, Zr, Ta, Cr, Mo, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Al, and Si in a total amount of 1 to 15% by weight, in which the Ag-based alloy sputtering target has an arithmetic mean roughness (Ra) of 2 &#x3bc;m or more and a maximum height (Rz) of 20 &#x3bc;m or more at a sputtering surface thereof.

A silver alloy reflective film is used in an optical information recording medium and contains silver as a main component, a total of 0.01 to 3 atomic percent of at least one of Bi and Sb, and a total of 3 to 42 atomic percent of at least one of Cu, Ge, Mg, and Zn. The silver alloy reflective film preferably further contains 0.1 to 3 atomic percent of yttrium. An optical information recording medium includes the silver alloy reflective film. A sputtering target for depositing the silver alloy reflective film contains silver as a main component, 0.01 to 3 atomic percent of Sb (or 0.03 to 10 atomic percent of Bi), and a total of 3 to 42 atomic percent of at least one of Cu, Ge, Mg, and Zn.

Silver alloy reflective films for optical information recording media, silver alloy sputtering targets therefor, and optical information recording media

A silver alloy reflective film is used in an optical information recording medium and contains Ag as a main component, a total of 1 to 10 atomic percent of at least one selected from Nd, Gd, Y, Sm, La, and Ce, and a total of 2 to 10 atomic percent of at least one selected from Li, Mg, Al, Zn, Cu, Pt, Au, Pd, Ru, and Rh. The reflective film preferably further contains 0.01 to 3 atomic percent of at least one of Bi and Sb and/or 2 to 10 atomic percent of at least one selected from In, Sn, and Pb. An optical information recording medium includes the silver alloy reflective film. A silver alloy sputtering target has the same composition as the silver alloy reflective film.

A silver alloy reflective film is used in an optical information recording medium and contains silver as a main component, a total of 1 to 10 atomic percent of at least one rare-earth element, and a total of 1 to 15 atomic percent of at least one selected from In, Sn, Al, and Mg, in which the total content of the at least one rare-earth element and the at least one selected from In, Sn, Al, and Mg is 5 atomic percent or more. The silver alloy reflective film preferably further contains 0.01 to 3 atomic percent of at least one of Bi and Sb. A silver alloy sputtering target has the same composition as the silver alloy reflective film.
