The present invention provides a lithium ion secondary battery which is provided with: a nonaqueous electrolyte solution; and a positive electrode and a negative electrode, each of which is capable of absorbing and desorbing lithium. This lithium ion secondary battery is configured such that the nonaqueous electrolyte solution contains (A) an electrolyte, (B) a nonaqueous organic solvent and (C) a compound that is obtained by substituting at least one hydrogen atom, which is bonded to a carbon atom in an aromatic ring of a compound that has at least one aromatic ring and no amino group, by a group that is represented by formula (1); and this lithium ion secondary battery is charged at a voltage within the range of 4.35-5 V for use. This undercoat foil for an energy storage device electrode comprises a collector base plate, and an undercoat layer formed on at least one surface of the collector base plate, the undercoat layer containing carbon nanotubes, and the coating amount per collector base plate surface being 0.1 g/mor less. Since this undercoat foil can be effectively welded by ultrasound, the use thereof allows a low-resistance energy storage device and a simple and effective production method therefor to be provided.

An electroconductive protective layer obtained by dispersing an electroconductive carbon material in a binder resin is formed on one or both surfaces of the positive-electrode current-collecting substrate and/or the negative-electrode current-collecting substrate. Regardless of whether the nonaqueous electrolyte solution including the sulfonyl imide electrolyte is used, the nonaqueous secondary cell has good cycle characteristics and high output characteristics.

A hyper-branched polymer dispersant represented by, for example, formula (I) has high adhesion properties to a current collector substrate and therefore enables the formation of an electrically conductive bonding layer having high carbon nanotube concentration. When a composite current collector for an energy storage device electrode which is equipped with the electrically conductive bonding layer is used, it becomes possible to produce an energy storage device from which an electrical current can be extracted without causing the decrease in a voltage particularly in use applications that require a large electrical current instantaneously, such as electrical automotive applications, and which has a long cycle life.
