The present invention provides a connector that can be easily and properly connected to a sheet-like electrically conductive member that is provided with a plurality of electrically conductive portions arranged at different height positions in the thickness direction. A connectorincludes a plurality of contacts, a body housingthat holds the contacts, and a cover housingthat is attached to the body housing. The body housinghas a plurality of holding portionsthat hold the contacts. The holding portionsare provided in the body housingso as to hold the contactsat different height positions in the thickness direction of the body housing. A contact includes a hollow box-shaped main body portion into which a plate-shaped counterpart contact is inserted in an insertion direction. A pair of inward slantwise elastic piece portions are provided in a manner extending in the insertion direction from a pair of opposed edge portions of the insertion opening of the main body portion into the main body portion. The pair of elastic piece portions have contact portions arranged in mutually proximal portions. A pair of restricting portions provided on the main body portion are arranged to restrict the amount of deformation of the pair of elastic piece portions when the counterpart contact is inserted.

Contact

An electrical connector includes a base including a base housing, and a socket including a socket housing. Each of two socket side walls of the socket housing is provided with a first protrusion, and a distance L4 between two base side walls is equal to or larger than a distance L2 between the respective leading ends of the first protrusions. Each of two base side walls is provided with a first engagement projection on its inner surface, and a distance L1 between the respective leading ends of the first engagement projections is smaller than the distance L2 between the respective leading ends of the first protrusions, and the distance L1 is equal to or larger than a distance L3 between the two socket side walls. While the socket is completely accommodated in a socket accommodation chamber, each first protrusion is positioned below the corresponding first engagement projection.
