An image processing apparatus is configured to extract contour information of a medium area from readout image data, and correct distortion of the medium area based on the contour information. The medium area is an area for image data corresponding to a medium serving as a reading target. In an image capturing system, a lighting device includes a base disposed on a medium setting surface on which a medium serving as a reading target is set, an arm extending upward from the base, a top unit extending from the arm in such a manner that the top unit faces the medium setting surface, a placement surface that is provided to the top unit and on which a smartphone (imaging unit) is placed at a position allowing the smartphone to photograph the medium set on the medium setting surface, and a lighting LED that is provided to the top unit and irradiates the medium setting surface.

An image capturing system includes a smartphone serving as an imaging unit, and a mounting stand to be disposed on a medium setting surface on which a medium serving as a reading target is set. The mounting stand has a placement surface on which the smartphone is placed at a position allowing the smartphone to image the medium set on the medium setting surface. When generating a starting trigger based on image information of an imaging area in the state where the smartphone is placed on the mounting stand, the smartphone executes a function (scanning operation) associated with the starting trigger.

A lighting device includes a base unit arranged on a medium installation face on which a medium is disposed, an arm unit extending upwardly from the base unit, a top unit extending from the arm unit so as to face the medium installation face, a mounting face disposed on the top unit to mount an image capturing unit at a position capable of photographing the medium on the medium installation face, a lighting disposed in the top unit to irradiate the medium installation face, and a lighting control unit configured to adjust an amount of light of the lighting. The lighting control unit sets the amount of light of the lighting to a maximum at the time of photographing and, after the photographing, returns the amount of light to that before the photographing.

Lighting device, image capturing system, and lighting control method

An image capturing system includes an image capturing unit configured to photograph the medium on a medium installation face, a lighting configured to irradiate the medium installation face, a lighting control unit configured to control the lighting, and a non-readable area determining unit configured to determine whether there is a non-readable area from which the image capturing unit is unable to read information of the medium due to reflected light of the lighting. The non-readable area is determined based on an image acquired by photographing the medium in a turned-on state of the lighting. When the non-readable area determining unit determines that there is the non-readable area, the medium is photographed in different lighting states set by the lighting control unit, and among the image data generated in photographing process, image data corresponding to the medium is generated by synthesizing areas except an area corresponding to the non-readable area.

An image reading apparatus includes a casing that blocks ambient light and has an opening portion in a bottom surface, an image capturing unit that captures an image of a medium exposed to an internal portion of the casing in the opening portion, and a plurality of light sources that are arranged on the internal portion of the casing and irradiate light toward the opening portion.
