The display driving circuit includes: an OD (OverDrive) calculation circuit operable to generate an OD driving signal for improving the response characteristic of a display device according to display image data; a drive-output circuit operable to supply an OD driving signal to the display device; and a compression circuit operable to store compressed display data in a memory. The compression circuit includes a DCT calculation module operable to execute DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) of display image data, and an entropy coding module operable to execute variable length entropy coding of DCT conversion display data. Preferably, the display driving circuit further includes a decompression circuit operable to supply an OD calculation circuit with display data resulting from decompression of compressed display data read out the memory.

Display driving circuit

A luminance distribution at the highest gradation level is corrected to a curved plane luminance distribution in such a manner that the maximum gradation input to a display panel shows a curved luminance plane having the highest luminance at the center of the display panel and a lower luminance in the peripheral area of the display panel. The luminance distribution at the minimum gradation is corrected in such a manner that the minimum gradation shows a curved luminance plane having the lowest luminance at the center of the display panel and a higher luminance in the peripheral area of the display panel.

Image correction method and image display device

In a display device and a display driver, when a grayscale of a display image is equal to or lower than a specific grayscale value obtained from a histogram of the display image, a display grayscale is extended with a linear function. On the other hand, when a grayscale of a display image is equal to or higher than the specific grayscale value, histogram equalization of a part higher than the specific grayscale value is performed, and the display grayscale is extended with a non-linear function obtained from the histogram equalization.

If a large minimum data unit for recorded data is used to record a small data amount of management information, the recording time is long, and furthermore when a WO (write once) is used as the recording medium, the number of recording operations is restricted. To solve the above problems, the present invention records data in a management area in units smaller than ordinary units for recorded data to suitably record information in a limited management area and thereby efficiently use the user data area. At that time, the present invention simplifies interleave processing usually applied to ordinary recorded data, and performs the simplified interleave processing on a data structure (for data of small size) of the present invention so as to ensure the signal processing compatibility between the ordinary data and data having the data structure according to the present invention.

Recording and reproducing data to/from a recording medium having a user data area and an information area for storing information about the recording medium

In a display device such as a liquid crystal display, a processing for compressing a range of display data (grayscale) to a low grayscale side (a grayscale range where response is fast) except for a high grayscale side (a grayscale range where response is slow) at a predetermined compression ratio to conduct display according to response characteristic of transition between grayscales and a temperature state and a processing for increasing a light amount of a backlight to compensate for luminance change due to the compression are performed, for example, in a liquid crystal panel of TN liquid crystal. Thereby, response can be made fast even at a low temperature time.

Display device and driving circuit thereof

In a display device using an RGB time division drive system in which RGB data to be supplied to display pixels of three colors RGB are subjected to time-division multiplexing and input to a liquid crystal panel unit, (1) data are input to the liquid crystal panel unit alternately in the order of RGB and BGR every line signal, and a selection signal SC which is in the on-state at a break of one line period is kept in the on-state until the next line period. In addition, (2) over a partial non-display period in partial display, selection signals SA, SB and SC are always in the off-state and an equalize signal EQG is in the on-state.

In encoding digital data, scrambling is executed after error correction encoding is completed. In decoding digital data, error correction processing is executed after descrambling is completed. In the error correction processing, after syndrome calculation is performed, syndrome sis used to determine the location and value of an error; the error value is subtracted from each syndrome value; and the result is divided by a fixed value. This process realizes a digital data encoding and decoding system providing substantially the same correcting ability as a conventional process except that error propagation occurs through descrambling.

In the optical disk apparatus, an arbitrary seed data for randomizing is added to an original data to be recorded on a disk. One-bit randomizing data is determined by operation using one-bit original data or seed data, and plural-bit past randomized data.
