An image forming apparatus includes a fixing section that fixes an image formed on a recording medium and a drive section that drives the fixing section in rotation. The drive section is stopped or rotated at a lower speed for reducing noise after fixing an image on the recording medium while preventing the temperature of a fixing roller from increasing.

A main body the image forming apparatus comprises a swinging member which swings freely with respect to the main body. The swinging member is provided with a feeding member for transporting a medium which is fed from a medium feed section rotatably supported by the swinging member. When swinging the swinging member, the user can access the medium feed section for removing the jammed medium. The feeding member is not deteriorated over ages. It is easy to take out a belt unit for transporting the medium when the swinging member is opened.

A fixing apparatus has a heat roller, a paper-separating lug, and a guide roller. The lug engages the heat roller to separate a recording medium from the heat roller if the recording medium rotates in contact with the heat roller. The lug is movable between a first position and a second position. The lug is brought into contact engagement with the heat roller when the lug is in the first position and out of contact engagement with the heat roller in the second position. The guide roller is rotatably mounted to the lug. The guide roller extends into a plane in which a travel path of the recording medium lies, and guides the recording medium after the recording medium is separated from the heat roller.
