A method for forming an image of a subterranean region of interest, using an observed seismic dataset, a seismic velocity model and a simulated seismic dataset based in part, on the seismic velocity model is provided. This method includes forming trace pairs from the simulated and observed seismic dataset, wherein each of the trace pairs comprises of an observed trace and a simulated trace. An objective function is formed based on a penalty function and a phase cross-correlation between the observed and simulated seismic trace of each of the trace pairs. This method further includes determining an extremum of the objective function and a seismic velocity increment based on the extremum. The seismic velocity model is updated by combining the seismic velocity increment and the seismic velocity model and the image of the subterranean region of interest is formed based in part, on the seismic velocity model.

System and method for forming a seismic velocity model and imaging a subterranean region

Methods and systems for forming a three-dimensional ('3D') seismic image of a subterranean region of interest is disclosed. The method includes obtaining a seismic dataset a seismic trace for each of a plurality of pairs of one source and one receiver location and obtaining a 3D travel-time cube for each source location and each receiver location. The method further includes dividing the seismic dataset into a plurality of seismic subsets composed of set of source locations, set of receiver locations a seismic trace for each pair of source and receiver location and the 3D travel-time cube for each source for each receiver location. The method still further includes transmitting, to a random-access memory block of a computer processing unit the seismic subset, and forming a seismic partial image based on the seismic subset, and determining the 3D seismic image based on a combination of the seismic partial images.

Method and systems for computational efficiency 3D prestack Kirchhoff depth migration

An acquisition system is configured to acquire seismic data representing a subsurface formation during a fracking process. The system includes at least one acoustic sensor that is configured to obtain vibration data representing vibrations relating to three orthogonal directions relative to the at least one acoustic sensor. The system is configured to receive the vibration data from the at least one acoustic sensor, identify one or more resonance frequencies represented in the vibration data, determine, based on the identified one or more resonance frequencies, a stage of a fracking process being performed, identify, based on the stage of the fracking process that is identified, a feature of one or more fractures in a borehole that is configured for the fracking process, and generate a seismic image of the subsurface formation based on the feature of the one or more fractures.

Three-component seismic data acquisition while fracking

Systems and methods include a computer-implemented method for presenting interpretation results of synchronized seismic data and fracture treatment times. A standard format seismic dataset of sensor readings obtained from a three-component sensor is generated. Coordinates and recording times corresponding to the sensor readings are added to the standard format seismic dataset. Synchronized seismic data is generated from the standard format seismic dataset by synchronizing seismic recording times with fracture treatment times. Quality-controlled synchronized seismic data is generated by removing dead traces and abnormal data samples from the synchronized seismic data. A time-frequency analysis is performed on the quality-controlled synchronized seismic data, including performing short-time Fourier transforms to analyze variations of Fourier spectra over time. Based on the time-frequency analysis, resonance frequencies are extracted from each frequency spectrum at different time samples. Interpretation results based are presented to a user.
