A method for producing nickel nanoparticles is described, including a first step of heating a mixture of a nickel carboxylate with 1-12 carbon atoms in its moiety excluding &#x2014;COOH and a primary amine to obtain a complexed reaction solution with a nickel complex foiiiied therein, and a second step of heating the complexed reaction solution by a microwave to obtain a Ni-nanoparticle slurry. In the first step, the heating is preferably conducted at a temperature of 105-175&#xb0; C. for 15 minutes or longer. In the second step, the heating is preferably conducted at a temperature of 180&#xb0; C. or higher.

Method for producing nickel nanoparticles

A crystalline rare-earth oxide or sulfide which has an average particle diameter of 10 nm or less and in which the rare-earth element has a low valance, in particular, crystalline EuO or EuS of nano size. The rare-earth oxide or sulfide is produced by irradiating an inorganic acid salt or organic acid salt of a rare-earth element having a high valence with a light in the range of from UV to visible light in the presence of: a compound which, upon irradiation with the light in the range of from UV to visible light induces a photooxidation-reduction reaction and simultaneously converts the rare-earth ions having a high valence into ions having a low valence; and a cholagen source compound which immediately reacts with the low valence ions to form a cholagen compound.

In the present invention, a pigment is irradiated with a microwave so as to improve a surface thereof. Further, letting A be an area of a portion having hydrophilic groups on a surface of the pigment and B be an area of the other portion thereon, which are respectively found by measuring infrared spectrometers of the pigment, a ratio (A/B) is not less than 4. Water base ink according to the present invention is obtained by dispersing such a pigment in an aqueous medium.
