A push-pull signal Spp fetched with tracking open is smoothed to a smoothing signal Spp to remove signal components generated wobbling due to radial runout, and the smoothing signal is binarized to compute an autocorrelation value in the autocorrelation computing circuit. An information recording and reproducing apparatus performs information recording and reproducing on an optical disc having a recording track wobbled by a predetermined frequency. The apparatus includes an optical pickup which irradiates a laser light on the optical disc and receives the laser light reflected by the optical disc to output an electric signal corresponding to the laser light, a push-pull signal generating unit which includes a sample-hold unit and generates the sample-hold push-pull signal and the non-sample-hold push-pull signal from the electric signal, a sample-hold circuit which samples and holds the push-pull signal, a recording clock generating unit which generates a recording clock synchronized with the wobble signal based on the sample-hold push-pull signal during recording and based on the non-sample-hold push-pull signal during reproduction, and a phase adjusting unit which adjusts the phases of the non-sample-hold push-pull signal and the sample-hold push-pull signal.

Information recording and reproducing apparatus

A pre-pit signal detecting apparatus is used in an information recording apparatus for recording record information onto a record medium on which record control information for controlling a recording operation is recorded in advance by forming a pre-pit on the record medium, and detects a pre-pit signal corresponding to the pre-pit when the information recording apparatus records the record information onto the record medium. The pre-pit signal detecting apparatus is provided with: an extracting device, to which a reproduction signal of the record medium is inputted, for extracting and outputting a predetermined signal component, which is used for detecting the pre-pit signal, out of the inputted reproduction signal; an input controlling device for inputting a standard signal, which is set in advance, to the extracting device in place of the reproduction signal before the pre-pit signal is detected and inputting the reproduction signal to the extracting device when the pre-pit signal is detected; a phase difference detecting device for comparing the standard signal outputted by the extracting device with the standard signal inputted by the input controlling device, and for detecting a phase difference generated between the compared standard signals due to an extracting operation of the extracting device before the pre-pit signal is detected; and a pre-pit detecting device for detecting the pre-pit signal on the basis of the extracted predetermined signal component while canceling the detected phase difference.

Pre-pit signal detecting apparatus and information recording apparatus

Provided are a method and apparatus for detecting an occurrence of erroneous recording in recording information to be recorded into a DVD-R. The information consists of a plurality of ECC blocks each including a predetermined number of recording sectors. In the DVD-R, synchronizing information, accomplished by wobbling of groove tracks, and positional information, such as pre-pits, are previously recorded. Both the synchronizing information and the positional information are detected, then a synchronizing timing signal showing a time at which the synchronizing information is detected and a positional timing signal showing a time at which each ECC block is assigned to be recorded are produced. The synchronizing timing signal produced during an interval defined by the successive two positional timing signals is counted in number, and a state signal for estimating the occurrence of the erroneous recording is produced on comparison between the counted number and the predetermined number of the recording sectors. The method and apparatus are suitable for information recording method and apparatus.

Information recording using technique for detecting erroneous recording

An optical disk player having a tracking servo apparatus and a focusing servo apparatus. By amplifying a focusing error at a predetermined gain and adding it to a tracking error, the rolling which occurs due to a mass balance distortion of a pickup is electrically suppressed. Thus, an adverse influence on the tracking servo by the rolling upon focusing driving can be prevented.

Optical disk player having beam correction means

An optical disk player provided with tilt servo unit. A quadrant type photodetector is used as disk tilt detecting means, and the push-pull output is issued as a disk tilt detecting signal. By simultaneous use of the photodetector of the pickup, there is no need to use special-purpose tilt sensor, and this contributes to compact design of the pickup and to the reduction of manufacturing cost.

A tracking servo system of disk player uses the time difference detection method for generating the tracking error signal. A time gate is provided for detecting the zero-crossing of the tracking error level in an on-track condition during a jumping operation. As the result, negative effects due to unstableness in timing of the zero-crossing can be eliminated.

An optical disk player using quadrant type photodetector as light receiving means. The phase difference output by the time difference detection method is issued as a tracking error, and a DC component of differential output by the push-pull method is issued as a tilt error, and zero cross of said differential output is detected. By using this detection output for the detection of zero-cross timing on off-track, stable operation of the tracking servo unit is ensured.

There is provided a tracking servo apparatus of a disk player comprising: off-track detecting means for detecting that an information reading spot of a pickup does not exist on an information recording track of a disk and for generating an off-track signal; and level control means for increasing an amplitude of a tracking error signal when the off-track signal exists, whereby the stable tracking servo operation can be executed.
