Disclosed is a method for foam-injection molding a thermoplastic resin, comprising: (1) providing a mold comprising a fixed mold half and a movable mold half mating with the fixed mold half to thereby form a mold cavity defined by an inner wall of the fixed mold half and an inner wall of the movable mold half, wherein the mold cavity has an inner wall which has a molten resin releasing means, (2) injecting a foamable thermoplastic resin in a molten form into the mold cavity of the mold, thereby forming a foamable molten resin mass in the mold cavity, (3) applying a pressure to the foamable molten resin mass in the mold cavity to press the surface of the foamable molten resin mass against the inner wall of the mold cavity, thereby allowing a surface portion of the foamable molten resin mass to be solidified to form a surface skin layer of the foamable molten resin mass, and (4) releasing a portion of the foamable molten resin mass under the foaming pressure exerted by the foamable molten resin mass to the outside of the mold cavity through the molten resin releasing means, thereby lowering the pressure exerted on the foamable molten resin mass, so that foaming of the foamable molten resin mass in the mold cavity is caused to occur to form a foamed resin mass having the surface skin layer remaining substantially non-foamed.

A power seat drive mechanism for an automobile has a motor which drives a worm which in turn drives a worm wheel at a given speed. The worm wheel is connected to a threaded shaft which it drives to rotate. Rotation of the threaded shaft forces it through a nut which is fixed to the body of the vehicle. This drives the threaded shaft which is connected to the sliding frame of the seat longitudinally with respect to the vehicle. In order to prevent force exerted on the seat in the direction of its travel, from causing the threaded shaft to rotate faster than it is being driven and thus overrun the worm gear, a resilient governor member is included which provides a limited braking effect and tends to resist the rotation of the shaft. With this configuration, backlash in the drive mechanism is eliminated.

A head rest for the seat of an automotive vehicle is attached to a stay by means of a bolt which tightens a clamping clip onto the stay. The same bolt functions to hold the clip in place within the internal structure of the head rest. The engaging pressure of the clip can be adjusted by the bolt, and therefore, the precision with which the parts are formed does not need to be high allowing the head rest to be made inexpensively. By providing the clip in the interior of the head rest as opposed to an outside surface, it is possible to prevent injury to the vehicle occupants which might otherwise be caused by impacts on the clip or the bolt during an accident.

A seat lifter for a vehicular seat comprises spaced side base members; and front and rear lift mechanisms which are mounted on front and rear portions of the side base members for adjusting the heights of front and rear portions of a seat cushion respectively. Each lift mechanism comprises a pivot shaft extending across the side base members, brackets secured to the pivot shaft to rotate therewith, arm members pivotally connected to the brackets and connected to the seat cushion, a sector gear pivotally connected to one of the side base members and pivotally moved together with the pivot shaft, a pinion meshed with the sector gear, and a handling knob mounted on the side base member and having the pinion connected thereto.

Herein disclosed is a latch device for latching an inclinable bark rest cushion to a seatback of a seat when the cushion is snugly received in a tunnel formed in the seatback. The latch device comprises a striker secured to the seatback, a latch member pivotally mounted in the cushion, a spring incorporated with the latch member to bias the same in a direction to achieve a latched engagement between the latch member and the striker, an actuation member pivotally mounted in the cushion in a manner to push and pivot the latch member in a releasing direction to cancel the latched engagement between the latch member and the striker when pivoted in a given direction, means having a pin portion which is projectable into a travelling way of the actuation member thereby to interrupt the actuation member from pivoting in the releasing direction, a base member secured to a rigid portion of the cushion and having an opening through which the pin portion passes, and a mechanism for manually actuating the pin portion from a back side of the back rest cushion.

A latch device is disclosed which latches an inclinable back rest cushion to a seatback when the cushion is snugly received in a tunnel formed in the seatback. The latch device comprises a striker fixed to the seatback, a stationary base member fixed to the seatback, a spring-biased latch member pivotally connected to the base member and latchingly engageable with the striker, a pull strap fixed to the latch member and exposed to the passenger room to be manipulated from the passenger room, a movable base member movably mounted on the stationary base member, a lock member pivotally mounted on the movable base member and movable to a position to obstruct the pivoting movement of the latch member in the striker releasing direction, a lock member actuating member pivotally mounted on the movable base member and engageable, when pushed by the striker, with the lock member to move the same away from the travelling path of the latch member, a lock cancelling member movably mounted on the movable base member and moving the latch member in the striker releasing direction when moved in a given direction by a given distance, and a structure connected to the movable base member to move therewith. The structure has a manually controlled lever which is projected outward from a slot formed in a back portion of the back rest cushion to be operable from a trunk room of the vehicle.

A seat slide device is disclosed which comprises a stationary rail securedly mounted on a fixed member; a movable rail slidable on and along the stationary rail while keeping an interlocking engagement with the stationary rail, the movable rail mounting thereon a set and slidable to a given position wherein a longitudinal end portion of the movable rail is projected considerably from a corresponding end of the stationary rail; a leg member having one end secured to the corresponding end of the stationary rail and the other end secured to the fixed member; and a structure defined by the leg member, the structure having a projected portion which is placed above the longitudinal end portion of the movable rail when the movable rail comes to the given position.

Seat slide device

A seat is mounted on right and left slide rails slidable on right and left guide rails so that the position of the seat is adjustable back and forth. Right and left lock mechanisms are mounted on the right and left slide rails, respectively, for locking a relative movement between a right or left pair of the slide and guide rails. A handle bar is connected with the left lock mechanism, for example, and extends forwardly so that the left lock mechanism is unlocked with the handle bar. The motion of the handle bar for unlocking the left lock mechanism is transmitted through a release wire and link mechanism to the right lock mechanism to unlock the right lock mechanism together. The release wire extends from the handle bar adjacent the left slide rail to the right slide rail near the front of the seat. The link means extends backwardly along the right slide rail from the end of the release wire to the right lock mechanism. The link means makes it possible to displace the position of the right end of the release wire toward the front of the seat.
