A blended composition containing uncoated AlOflakes having a thickness of &#x2265;500 nm and a D-value of 15-30 &#x3bc;m and a D-value of 30-45 &#x3bc;m, and/or coated AlOflakes having a thickness of &#x2265;500 nm and a D-value of 15-30 &#x3bc;m and a D-value of 30-45 &#x3bc;m, which have been coated with at least one layer of a metal oxide, mixtures of at least two metal oxides, metal, metal sulphide, titanium suboxide, titanium oxynitride, FeO(OH), metal alloys and/or rare earth compounds, and their use in various formulations.

Alpha-alumina flakes

The present invention relates to alumina flakes having a defined thickness and particle size distribution and to their use in varnishes, paints, automotive coatings printing inks, masterbatches, plastics and cosmetic formulations and as substrate for effect pigments.

&#x3b1;-alumina flakes

Alpha-Alumina flakes having a particle thickness of 550-1000 nm, a D-value of 15-30 &#x3bc;m, a D-value of 30-45 &#x3bc;m and a D-value of &#x2264;9.0 &#x3bc;m. Use of the alumina flakes in varnishes, paints, automotive coatings printing inks, masterbatches, plastics and cosmetic formulations. Also, use of the alumina flakes as a substrate for effect pigments and in organic dyes.
