A light source unit includes: an arc tube having a light-emitting portion; a secondary reflector covering part of the periphery of the light-emitting portion and being provided with a secondary reflecting surface for reflecting light emitted from the light-emitting portion; a primary reflector having a primary reflecting surface for reflecting the light emitted from the light-emitting portion and the light reflected from the secondary reflector; a first electrode; and a second electrode; wherein the second electrode is arranged at a position which causes an ionic wind to be induced by applying a voltage between the second electrode and the first electrode and causes air between the secondary reflecting surface and the light-emitting portion to flow, and either one of the first electrode or the second electrode is arranged between the arc tube and the secondary reflector.

The center of discharging emission from the arc tube is disposed at a first focal position of the elliptic reflector, and the secondary reflecting mirror is configured as a separate member from the arc tube, so that the outer peripheral portion of the secondary reflecting mirror is accommodated within a circular cone connecting a second focal position of the elliptic reflector and the distal end of the front sealed section of the arc tube when being mounted to the front sealed section of the arc tube.

A lamp device and a projector having the lamp device eliminated of light leaking in a direction opposite to a reflecting direction at a rear end of an encapsulation fixing an arc tube on a reflection mirror is simply and inexpensively provided. An arc tube and a reflection mirror are provided. The arc tube has encapsulations one of which is inserted in a cylinder of the reflection mirror thereby securing the encapsulation and the cylinder together by an adhesive. The bulb of the arc tube and the other encapsulation are positioned on a side close to a reflection surface of the reflection mirror. The encapsulation inserted in the cylinder and positioned on a side opposite to the reflection surface has an end at least at an end face of which is covered with the adhesive thereby providing light shield.

The manufacturing method of a sub-mirror used for a light source lamp provided with an arc tube, an ellipsoidal reflector to reflect lights emitted from the arc tube to be emitted toward an illuminated region, and a sub-mirror having a reflection concave surface to reflect the lights emitted from the arc tube to the ellipsoidal reflector and a through-hole used for attachment to the arc tube. The manufacturing method of a sub-mirror can include a tube-like member preparing step of preparing a tube-like member having an inside diameter dimension matching with an inside diameter dimension of the through-hole, a grinding step of forming a concave surface, though grinding applied from one end face side of the tube-like member, a polishing step of polishing the concave surface formed in the grinding step, and a reflection layer forming step of forming the reflection concave surface by forming a reflection layer within a concave surface polished in the polishing step.

A prism structure that comprises of a combination of a plurality of modulators and a color-combining prism is provided, wherein light shielding means having an opening in the center are arranged between the modulators and the color-combing prism. The light shielding means allows image light to pass through the opening and blocks light from the periphery of the image light. The light shielding means allows linear stray light and spot-like stray light from the periphery of the image light to be effectively removed thereby improving image quality.

The invention provides an optical element inspection device and an optical element inspection method capable of inspecting a relative position of each reflective surface of an optical element. An optical element inspection device includes a pedestal with a cross-dichroic prism installed thereon, an autocollimator which introduces the measurement light into any of four reflective surfaces at the angle of incidence of 45&#xb0;, and detects the return light thereof, and a switching device to introduce the measurement light into only either a left area or a right area. The relative position between two reflective surfaces of each color reflective surface can be easily inspected by introducing the measurement light in only the reflective surface of either area of the color reflective surface by a switching device.

Optical element inspection device and optical element inspection method

The present invention provides a technique for improving the optical characteristics of a light-selective prism. By cutting a block along a plane perpendicular to a first direction, a plurality of first small blocks are obtained. A first selective film is formed on the cut face of the first small block, and the plurality of first small blocks are stuck together so as to obtain a first processed block in which the first selective film is located at the interface of adjacent two first small blocks. Next, by cutting the first processed block along a plane perpendicular to a second direction that is substantially perpendicular to the first direction, a plurality of second small blocks are obtained. A second selective film is formed on the cut face of the second small block, and the plurality of second small blocks are stuck together to obtain a second processed block in which the second selective film is located at the interface of adjacent two second small blocks. Light-selective prisms in which two kinds of selective films are formed on an almost X shape interface is obtained from the second processed block.
