A cloth clamping device includes a clamping mechanism that comes into contact with a cloth and an up-and-down movement mechanism that moves the clamping mechanism up and down. The clamping mechanism includes a support portion, a leg portion, a foot portion, and a clamping portion. The clamping portion has a leading end portion facing the foot portion in a sideway direction and a base end portion being pivotally supported by the support portion. When the leg portion is lowered with respect to the support portion, the leading end portion pivots downward and is positioned in a sideway direction with respect to the foot portion, and when the leg portion is raised with respect to the support portion, the clamping portion comes into contact with the upper surface of the cloth and the leading end portion is positioned above the foot portion, and the clamping mechanism draw up the cloth.

An apparatus for moving a work-sheet pressing member of a sewing machine relative to a work-sheet supporting member to press a work sheet on the work-sheet supporting member, the apparatus including a biasing device which produces a biasing force to move the work-sheet pressing member in a downward direction toward the work-sheet supporting member, a solenoid which moves, against the biasing force, the work-sheet pressing member in an upward direction away from the work-sheet supporting member, a control device which controls an energization of the solenoid so that the work-sheet pressing member is moved in the downward and upward directions, a detector which provides a detection signal indicating that the work-sheet pressing member is moved in the downward direction to a braking position which is predetermined relative to the work-sheet supporting member, the control device receiving the detection signal from the detector, and the control device controlling the solenoid such that, when the control device receives the detection signal during the downward movement of the work-sheet pressing member, the solenoid reduces a speed of the downward movement of the work-sheet pressing member.

Work-sheet pressing apparatus for sewing machine

A sewing machine including a needle holding device which holds a sewing needle, a sheet holding device which holds one or more work sheets, and a moving device which moves the sheet holding device relative to the needle holding device, the moving device including a drive source which produces a drive force, one or more cylindrical cams which are connected to the drive source and each of which is rotatable about an axis line by being driven by the drive source, each cylindrical cam having a pair of opposite spiral cam surfaces formed on an outer circumferential surface thereof, and one or more cam followers which are connected to the sheet holding device and each of which is engaged with the spiral cam surfaces of a corresponding cylindrical cam such that the cam follower is movable along the cam surfaces and is substantially immovable in directions perpendicular to the cam surfaces, the cam follower being moved in a drive-force transmitting direction substantially parallel to the axis line of the cylindrical cam when the cam is rotated by the drive source, so that the cam follower transmits the drive force of the drive source to the sheet holding device.

A main-presser driving apparatus for an automatic binding sewing machine including two sewing needles for carrying out a binding sewing operation and a pair of main pressers for pressing a base cloth on which a binding cloth is to be sewn, the main pressers being supported by a frame of the sewing machine such that the two pressers are opposed to each other and are movable independently of each other along a directional line in which the two pressers advance toward, and retract away from, each other, the driving apparatus including a pair of drive devices each of which includes an actuator for displacing a corresponding one of the main pressers in the above-indicated direction independently of the other of the main pressers, each actuator being controllable to be stopped at a desired operational position; a needle distance specifying device specifying a distance between the two sewing needles; a control command producing device producing, based on the specified needle distance, a control command for each of the two actuators of said pair of drive means; and a control device driving each of the two actuators according to the produced control command and thereby displacing a corresponding one of the two main pressers along said directional line to a position corresponding to the produced control command.

Main-presser driving apparatus for automatic binding sewing machine

A feeding device for independently feeding, by a preparatory device, a binder strip and flap strips to a garment held by a base presses. There are eight types of combination in feeding fashions, whether or not the binder strip is to be fed, whether or not one flap strip is to be fed, and whether or not another flap strip is to be fed (2.sup.3 =8). Various feeding fashions are provisionally set in order prior to actual sewing, and control means controls actual operations of the preparatory device in accordance with the feeding fashions and every feeding fashions.
