The present invention provides an ink drying prevention apparatus that can prevent ink within an ink-jet recording head from drying, for a long period of time. The ink drying prevention apparatus prevents ink within an ink-jet recording head from drying, and includes a porous substance permeated with a seal liquid that is nonvolatile and incompatible with the ink within the head, wherein the porous substance can contact a nozzle surface of the ink-jet recording head. The seal liquid forms plural meniscuses in an interface with the nozzle surface and inside the porous substance to block air paths, thereby preventing ink within a nozzle exposed to the nozzle surface from drying.

The present invention provides a recording head for electrostatic recording having a plurality of lower electrodes and a plurality of upper electrodes constituting a matrix with an insulating layer interposed therebetween and a space for ion generation where corona discharge is caused by applying a voltage between the lower and upper electrodes characterized in that a plurality of short partial recording heads are formed by integrally firing the lower electrodes, insulating layer and upper electrodes and are joined to provide a recording head of a desired length.

Method of manufacturing a recording head for electrostatic recording

A latent electrostatic image is formed on a rotatable latent image carrying body in a matrix form by an electrostatic recording head. An encoder outputs a pulse signal having a period which reflects a rotational speed of the latent image carrying body. A timing signal to be used for driving the recording head is generated based on the pulse signal and control information which has been produced based on the pulse signal and indicates a proper drive period of the timing signal. In another method, the period of the pulse signal is corrected so as to become consistent with a pitch, in the rotational direction of the latent image carrying body, of matrix elements of the recording head. The timing signal is generated based on the corrected pulse signal.

An electrostatic latent image forming device has at least two electrodes with an insulating layer formed between the two electrodes. The electrodes are arranged in a matrix array. One set of electrodes has space regions formed in the electrodes in which creeping corona discharge occurs when a voltage is applied to those electrodes. Electrostatic latent image forming device includes a first insulating base plate, a plurality of first electrodes and a plurality of second electrodes disposed to form a matrix with a second insulating base plate interposed therebetween. Each of the second electrodes has a space area where a creeping corona discharge is caused to occur by applying a voltage between the first and second electrodes. The second insulating base plate is supported by the first insulating base plate. In the electrostatic latent image forming device, through holes are formed in the first insulating base plate, and conductors in conduction to the first and second electrodes are filled into the through holes. Connecting parts in conduction to the conductors are provided on the back surface of the first insulating base plate to apply voltages to the first and second electrodes through the conductors.

In an electrostatic latent image forming apparatus used in a printer, a facsimile machine or the like, there is added an insulating member between the conventional screen electrode and the latent image bearing body to allow the derived-ion beam to be squeezed down and the separation from the latent image bearing body to be reduced without the danger of a damaging discharge toward that body. The control area provided in apertures of the additional insulating member enables control of the direction of the derived ions so that the squeezing yields improved resolution and efficiency for high-density recording. The position of the additional insulating member is sufficient to inhibit damaging discharge, even when the screen electrode and latent image bearing body are very close to each other.

An apparatus for developing a latent magnetic image on a moving magnetic recording medium in which the image is always satisfactorily developed without excess toner particles yet using a simple mechanism. A developing magnet extends parallel to the surface of the recording medium, which is in the form of a magnetic drum. The direction of the magnetic field produced by the magnet at the point (line) of closest approach of the recording medium and magnet is the same as the direction of the magnetic field at boundaries between background regions and recorded image regions on the magnetic recording medium. A nonmagnetic rotating sleeve is positioned around the development magnet, and magnetic toner supplied to the outer surface of the sleeve.
