A transmission control system with gear shift failure detection includes a transmission (1), each gear of which is equipped with a synchromesh mechanism (1e); an actuator unit (2) consisting of a shift actuator (2a) for making a gear shift in a shift direction and a select actuator (2b) for making a gear shift in a select direction; a control unit (4) for calculating a target position signal (M) from an amount of pressdown of an accelerator pedal, a vehicle speed, and a set position of a gear selector to control not only the actuator unit so that a gear is set within a target range but also a clutch so that connection or disconnection is made according to an operation of the transmission; a position detector (2f, 2g) provided in each of the shift and select actuators for detecting a position of a piston rod (2c, 2d); a servo cylinder (2a, 2b) in response to a signal from the position detector to position the piston rod at a given position of each gear; a speed detector (4a) in response to a signal from the position detector of the shift actuator to detect an operational speed of the piston rod of the shift actuator; and a decision maker (4b) in response to a signal from the speed detector to decide that a gear shift is faulted if the operation speed is lower than a reference speed for a predetermined time outside a synchromesh mechanism operational range of the transmission.

In a method for automatically controlling the gear-shifting operation of a vehicle gear transmission so as to shift the transmission to a calculated target position according to the vehicle operation parameter(s), the stability of the calculated target position is discriminated and the required gear-shifting operation is carried out only when the stability satisfies a prescribed condition, whereby unnecessary gear-shifting operations can be effectively eliminated even if for some reason the calculated target gear position frequently changes.

Method for controlling vehicle automatic transmission systems

In a system for automatically controlling a gear transmission wherein an actuator device coupled with an operation member for the gear-shifting operation of the transmission is controlled for shifting the transmission to a target gear position, the system is provided with a first control unit for producing target signals indicating target gear positions and transmission data showing the relationships between specific gear positions of the gear transmission and positions of the operation member. A second control unit responsive to the target signal and the transmission data to produce a control signal for controlling the actuator device so as to position the operation member to a position corresponding to the target gear position.

An automatic transmission with an engine rpm sensor fault detector includes a starter switch (18); a clutch (6) for transmitting an output of an engine (8); a clutch control unit for controlling engagement of the clutch; a transmission (1); an engine rpm sensor (9); a an input shaft sensor (5a); a gear position sensor (40a) for detecting a gear position of the transmission; a control unit (4) for controlling the clutch control unit based on outputs of the respective detectors and enables the starter switch to operate when the transmission is in a neutral position. The control unit includes a starter switch detector (40b) for determining whether the starter switch is on and a fault determination unit (40c) for determining whether the first detector is faulty. The fault determination unit controls the clutch control unit to engage the clutch temporarily if there is no output from the first detector with the starter switch on and determines that the first detector is faulty if there is an output from the second detector.

In an electronically controlled automatic transmission system including a gear transmission and a clutch, in which a target gear position is determined in accordance with map data for gear-shift control, it is discriminated whether or not the vehicle is in accelerating condition and necessary control for shifting up the transmission to the target gear position is carried out only when the vehicle is not in the accelerating state. Thus, when the driver presses hard on an accelerating member to accelerate the vehicle, a series operations for shifting up is not carried out, whereby the transmission is kept in its present gear position. The operation for shifting up can be carried out after the completion of the acceleration of the vehicle.

A drive control apparatus of an automatic transmission device for use in automotive vehicles including a shift actuator and a select actuator comprising a pair of fluid pressure actuators capable of displacing a shift lever in right-angled two directions of a shift direction and a select direction, a piston rod and a detection rod capable of being displaced for an equal amount with respect to each other by a working fluid which is to be supplied and discharged to and from the actuators, a plurality of electromagnetic valves for supplying and discharging a working fluid to and from the actuators according to a control signal, a position switch for withdrawably engaging in a detection groove formed in an outer periphery of the detection rod and, when engaged, detaining the piston rod and detecting a control reference position of the actuators and outputting a detection signal thereof, a stroke sensor for continuously detecting displacement of the piston rod through the detection rod and an outputting a detection signal thereof, and a control unit for calculating the best position for each said actuators according to an input information regarding the driving state of the automotive vehicle and the operating state of an engine thereof and outputting a processed signal thereof to the electromagnetic valve in order to control the electromagnetic valve and also feedback controlling the activation of the electromagnetic valve according to the detection signals received from the position switch and from the stroke sensor, the activation of the actuators being normally controlled according to the input signal from the stroke sensor but, when the stroke sensor is out of order, being controlled according to the input signal coming from the position switch.

An apparatus for controlling a hydraulic single acting cylinder has first and second solenoid operated valves disposed in a supply line through which a working fluid is supplied to a working chamber defined in the cylinder which a piston is disposed, a third solenoid operated valve disposed in a return line through which the working fluid returns from the working chamber to a hydraulic tank, and a control unit for controlling the first to third solenoid operated valves. The second and third solenoid operated valves are solenoid operated proportional pressure control valves so that the piston speed can be regulated.

Apparatus for controlling a hydraulic single acting cylinder

A process for the manufacture of a solenoid operated valve of the double valve seat type ensures that the stroke distance of a ball valve between two valve seats is accurately provided. The ball valve is positioned on a portion of a first valve seat member, and a first jig is mounted on the ball valve. The jig is pressed until an end surface thereof and an abutting surface of the first valve seat member are contacted, thereby forming a first valve seat. The ball valve then is positioned on a portion of the second valve seat member, and a second jig is pressed toward the ball valve until an end surface of the second jig abuts an abutting surface of the second valve seat member, thereby forming a second valve seat. The abutting surfaces of the two valve seat members are abutted, and the two valve seat members are assembled.

Process for the manufacture of solenoid operated valve

A remotely operated, direction switching proportional control valve device comprises a direction switching control valve which includes a hydraulic actuator, an electromagnetic pressure reducing valve interposed between a liquid chamber of the hydraulic actuator and a hydraulic power source and an electromagnetic open or closed valve interposed between the liquid chamber and a liquid tank. Both the pressure reducing valve and the open or closed valve can be operated against an electromagnetic force for return movement. The device eliminates the requirement for a piston stroke detector and may be operated by a single electromagnetic coil.

Proportional control type remote-control direction switching control

A remotely operated, direction switching proportional control device comprises a direction switching control valve which includes a hydraulic actuator, an electromagnetic pressure reducing valve interposed between a liquid chamber of the hydraulic actuator and a hydraulic power source and an electromagnetic open or closed valve interposed between the liquid chamber and a liquid tank. Both the pressure-reducing valve and the open or closed valve can be operated against an electromagnetic force for return movement. The device eliminates the requirement for a piston stroke detector and may be operated by a single electromagnetic coil.
