A honeycomb filter includes a pillar-shaped honeycomb structure body having a porous partition wall disposed to surround a plurality of cells and a plugging portion, wherein the partition wall is composed of a material containing cordierite as a main component thereof, porosity of the partition wall measured by a mercury press-in method is 60 to 68%, an average pore diameter of the partition wall measured by a mercury press-in method is 8 to 12 and in a pore diameter distribution which indicates a cumulative pore volume of the partition wall measured by a mercury press-in method, with a pore diameter (&#x3bc;m) on an abscissa axis and a log differential pore volume (cm/g) on an ordinate axis, a first peak that includes a maximum value of the log differential pore volume has a pore diameter value of 10 &#x3bc;m or less, the pore diameter value corresponding to a &#x2153; value width of the maximum value.

A honeycomb filter includes a pillar-shaped honeycomb structure body having a porous partition wall disposed to surround a plurality of cells and a plugging portion, wherein the partition wall is composed of a material containing cordierite as a main component thereof, porosity of the partition wall measured by a mercury press-in method is 60 to 68%, an average pore diameter of the partition wall measured by a mercury press-in method is 13 to 18 &#x3bc;m, and in a pore diameter distribution indicating a cumulative pore volume of the partition wall measured by a mercury press-in method, with a pore diameter (&#x3bc;m) on an abscissa axis and a log differential pore volume (cm/g) on an ordinate axis, a first peak including a maximum value of the log differential pore volume has a pore diameter value of 15 &#x3bc;m or less, the pore diameter value corresponding to a &#x2153; value width of the maximum value.

A plugged honeycomb segment includes a honeycomb segment having a quadrangular prism shape which includes porous partition walls arranged to surround a plurality of cells and an outermost circumferential wall, and a plugging portion, wherein a porosity of the partition walls is 30 to 70%, in a cross section orthogonal to the cell extending direction, an inflow cell surrounded by the partition walls is a hexagon, and an outflow cell is a square, one outflow cell is surrounded by four inflow cells, the cell located at the outermost circumference includes a complete cell and an incomplete cell, and a thickness of the outermost circumferential wall in contact with the incomplete cell (T), a thickness of the outermost circumferential wall in contact with the complete cell (T), and a thickness of the partition walls (WT), satisfy 0.200 mm&#x3c;T1&#x3c;T2&#x2212;(&#xbd;&#xd7;WT) and T2&#x2264;0.700 mm.

A pillar-shaped honeycomb structure body of a honeycomb structure includes a circumferential cell structure, a central cell structure and a boundary wall therebetween. On a surface orthogonal to the cells there are a circumferential reinforcing region having the partition wall thicker than a basic partition wall thickness in the circumferential cell structure and existing outside a range of a distance from a centroid of the surface; and at least one of a first boundary reinforcing region having the partition wall thicker than the basic partition wall thickness and existing in a range of a distance from the centroid within a range of the circumferential cell structure and a second boundary reinforcing region having the partition wall thicker than a basic partition wall thickness in the central cell structure and existing outside of a range of a distance from the centroid within a range of the central cell structure.

A honeycomb structure has a pillar-shaped honeycomb structure body having porous partition walls which defines cells which forms a passage of liquid extended from an inflow end face toward an outflow end face, a circumferential wall arranged to surround a circumference of the partition walls. The honeycomb structure body has an outermost circumference cell structure including a complete cell arranged at the outermost circumference of the honeycomb structure body, a center cell structure formed by the cells arranged at a center part at an inner side to the outermost circumference cell structure, and a boundary wall arranged at a boundary part between the outermost circumference cell structure and the center cell structure. The outermost circumference cell structure and the center cell structure are formed as different structures to each other, and a thickness of the boundary wall is set to be thicker than a thickness of the circumferential wall.
