Docosahexaenoic acid-containing oil containing docosahexaenoic acid in a concentration of 40 wt. % or more of the total weight of fatty acids in the oil, and having an endothermic peak temperature determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) of 15° C. or lower; a biomass including the same; and a method for producing docosahexaenoic acid-containing oil including obtaining a biomass by culturing microorganisms of the genuscapable of producing this docosahexaenoic acid-containing oil, recovering the biomass after culture, and extracting the oil from the biomass after recovery.

Docosahexaenoic acid-containing oil and method for producing same

A method for producing a microbial oil includes steps of: genetically modifying a labyrinthulid by disrupting and/or silencing a gene, or by transforming another gene in addition to the disruption and/or gene silencing of the gene, and culturing the labyrinthulid, such that a fatty acid composition accumulated in the labyrinthulid comprises an increased EPA content; and collecting the microbial oil having the increased EPA content from the labyrinthulid. The labyrinthulid before the modification is selected from (A) a labyrinthulid belonging to the genusor genusand having very weak or no activity of producing PUFAs via a PUFA-PKS pathway; and (B) a labyrinthulid belonging to the genusin which a host PUFA-PKS gene is disrupted or silenced to a very weak level. The increased EPA content is preferably not less than 11.5% of a total fatty acid composition.

An ozone generation device includes an inverter, an ozone generator, and a reactor. The inverter turns on and off a switching element by pulse width modulation (PWM) control to convert DC power into AC power. In the ozone generator, voltage of the AC power is applied to a dielectric electrode, and discharge is generated in raw material gas flowing in a discharge gap between the dielectric electrode and a metal electrode, so that ozone is generated by the discharge. The reactor is connected in series to a dielectric electrode, and reduces an inrush current that flows through the dielectric electrode when the switching element is switched from off to on by the PWM control by the inverter.

A microbial oil is obtained from Labyrinthulomycetes in which a gene for fatty acid biosynthesis has been disrupted or an expression of the gene has been inhibited to highly accumulate the fatty acid. The microbial oil typically contains: (a) 1.5% or more of arachidonic acid (AA) based on a total amount of fatty acid; (b) 0.2% or more of dihomo-&#x3b3;-linolenic acid (DGLA) based on the total amount of fatty acid; (c) 0.04% or more of eicosatetraenoic acid (ETA) based on the total amount of fatty acid; (d) 3.8% or more of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) based on the total amount of fatty acid; (e) 13.7% or less of n-6 docosapentaenoic acid (n-6DPA) based on the total amount of fatty acid; and (f) 43.9% or less of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) based on the total amount of fatty acid.

Microbial oil containing fatty acids obtained from stramenopile and method of producing the same

[Problem] Provision of a method for fractionating lipids using liquefied dimethyl ether as a solvent. [Means for Solving] To provide a method for fractionating a lipid using liquefied dimethyl ether as a solvent. [Solution] A method for fractionating a lipid, which comprises subjecting a microbial biomass to extraction using liquefied dimethyl ether as a solvent and then fractionating the lipid utilizing separation selectivity for the lipid. A method for producing a lipid, which comprises subjecting a microbial biomass to extraction using liquefied dimethyl ether as a solvent, then fractionating a portion of the lipid utilizing separation selectivity for the lipid to modify the fatty acid composition of the remainder of the lipid which remains in the microbial biomass, and then extracting the lipid having a modified fatty acid composition.

Methods for fractionating lipids

A microbial oil is extracted from stramenopile transformed with a gene associated with synthesis of fatty acids, the gene encoding a fatty acid desaturase. The stramenopile belongs to the class Labyrinthulomycete. The microbial oil satisfies one or more of the following requirements: (a) an amount of arachidonic acid is 7% or less based on a total amount of the fatty acid composition; (b) an amount of DPA is 9% or less based on the total amount of the fatty acid composition; (c) an amount of ETA is 0.04% or more based on the total amount of the fatty acid composition; (d) an amount of EPA is 7% or more based on the total amount of the fatty acid composition; and (e) an amount of DHA is 45% or more based on the total amount of the fatty acid composition.

An ozone generation apparatus includes a cylindrical shaped first electrode, a cylindrical shaped second electrode disposed coaxially with the first electrode and disposed in the first electrode, a dielectric disposed between the first electrode and the second electrode. Dry air is supplied between the first electrode and the second electrode as raw material gas. A discharge gap length d formed by the first electrode, the second electrode, and the dielectric is set to be in a range of 0.3 to 0.5 mm. A pd product, which is a product of the discharge gap length d and a gas pressure p of the raw material gas, is in a range of 6 to 16 kPa&#xb7;cm. And the discharge gap length d and the gas pressure p of the raw material gas are set to satisfy following expression.

Ozone generation apparatus

According to one embodiment, a secondary battery control apparatus includes a charger/discharger and a charge/discharge controller. The charger/discharger connects a plurality of secondary batteries, and charges one secondary battery by electric power discharged by another secondary battery. The charge/discharge controller controls the charger/discharger such that charging and discharging are performed between the plurality of secondary batteries by using the charger/discharger if battery temperature information detected by temperature detector is lower than a preset threshold temperature, wherein the charging is stopped and switched to discharging or pause if voltage information detected by the voltage detector reaches the upper limit voltage of the secondary battery, and the discharging is stopped and switched to charging or pause if the voltage information detected by the voltage detector reaches the lower limit voltage of the secondary battery.

The components which have suwari-inhibiting action of rice bran extracts is reduced or removed, enabling broader utilization of them for fish paste products. A rice bran extract in which components having specific physiologically active functions are singled out, and these components are reduced or removed. The components are suwari-inhibiting components. The rice bran extract is preferably a water extract. The components are reduced or removed by precipitation or dialysis. The precipitation is calcium precipitation. The suwari-inhibiting components are phytin and/or phytic acid. The rice bran extract can be used as a fish paste additive.

A protective relaying system is disclosed which detects a fault in an electric power system having a circuit breaker by using a current and a voltage of the electric power system. The protective relaying system includes an input conversion/unit adapted to receive a first and a second input signals corresponding to said current and voltage, for converting the magnitude and/or the phase of the first and second input signals to produce least two electrical quantities a first electrical quantity and a third electrical quantity, and for outputting the second input signal without conversion as a second electrical quantity. The protective relaying system also includes a comparing unit connected to receive first, second and third electrical quantities from the input conversion unit for comparing the first and second electrical quantities to produce a first logical state and comparing the third and fourth electrical quantities to produce a second logical state signal cyclically. The protective relaying system further includes a digital data processing unit for judging whether a specified logical condition between the first and second logical state signals holds for a predetermined number of times corresponding to a predetermined electrical angle, and for producing a protection relay output signal based on the judging result.
