A general-purpose engine is provided with an engine body having an exhaust system part connected to a cylinder, and also with a cooling mechanism for cooling the engine body. The cooling mechanism is provided with a cooling fan which rotates to generate a cooling air flow, a discharge section which discharges the cooling air flow generated by the rotation of the cooling fan and a cooling air flow opening which is disposed in the upper part of a partition for separating a cylinder chamber having the cylinder provided therein from a muffler chamber having a canister muffler provided therein, connects the cylinder head side of the cylinder chamber and the upper side of the muffler chamber, and causes a cooling air flow to flow from the cylinder head side of the cylinder chamber to the muffler chamber.

General-purpose engine

Provided is an opening/closing mechanism for an intake member which enables backlash suppression a working member and positioning of a choke lever. The opening/closing mechanism includes the intake member that accommodates a filter part and has an opening leading to a carburetor at an end wall portion facing the filter part; an opening/closing member that is disposed between the filter part and the end wall portion, and opens and closes the opening; and a working member that is disposed on a side opposite to the opening/closing member with the end wall portion interposed therebetween. The working member includes an arm portion that extends along the end wall portion and is coupled with the opening/closing member at one end by sandwiching the end wall portion therebetween, and a holding portion that is provided at the other end of the arm portion, the intake member has a guide hole into which the arm portion is inserted to guide movement of the arm portion, the guide hole has a first fixing portion that fixes the arm portion on one side in a movement direction of the arm portion, and a second fixing portion that fixes the arm portion on the other side in the movement direction of the arm portion, and widths of the first fixing portion and the second fixing portion of the guide hole are respectively equal to or less than a width of the arm portion.

Mechanism for opening/closing intake member

An opening/closing mechanism of an intake member includes: an intake member that accommodates a filter part and has an opening leading to a carburetor in an end wall opposing the filter part; an opening/closing member disposed between the filter part and the end wall, and opens/closes the opening; and a working member disposed on an opposite side to the opening/closing member so as to interpose the end wall, and allows the opening/closing member to be operated. The working member includes: an arm part which extends along the end wall and is linked with the opening/closing member to interpose the end wall at one end part, and a holding part provided to another end part of the arm part. The intake member has a guide hole into which the arm part is inserted and guides movement of the arm part.

Opening/closing mechanism of intake member

Provided is a general purpose engine that has a small external appearance and can be placed in a stable posture even when inverted, and whereby labels attached to the upper surface thereof can be protected. The general purpose enginecomprises a shroudcovering an engine main body. The shroudincludes: a top coverarranged in an upper section of the general purpose engine; and a bottom coverarranged in a lower section of the general purpose engine. The top coverhas a pair of bridgesformed so as to protrude from the upper surface of the top cover, constituting the apex of the top coverand continually extending from the front surface of the top coverto the rear surface thereof, across the upper surface.

General purpose engine

A general-purpose engine is provided with an engine body having an exhaust system part connected to a cylinder, and also with a cooling mechanism for cooling the engine body. The cooling mechanism is provided with a cooling fan which rotates to generate a cooling air flow, a discharge section which discharges the cooling air flow generated by the rotation of the cooling fan, and a cooling air flow opening which is disposed in the upper part of a partition for separating a cylinder chamber having the cylinder provided therein from a muffler chamber having a canister muffler provided therein, connects the cylinder head side of the cylinder chamber and the upper side of the muffler chamber, and causes a cooling air flow to flow from the cylinder head side of the cylinder chamber to the muffler chamber.

Provided is a general purpose engine having a sufficient cooling function. The general purpose enginecomprises: an engine main bodyhaving a canister muffleron the side thereof; a cooling mechanismthat cools the engine main body; and a shroudcovering the engine main bodyand the cooling mechanism. The cooling mechanismcomprises: a cooling fanthat generates cooling air by rotating; and a blowing unitthat blows cooling air generated by the rotation of the cooling fan, towards the upper section of the engine main body. A space S in which the cooling air blown from the blowing unittowards the upper section of the engine main bodycan flow vertically downwards is formed between the shroudand the canister muffler. A return sectionthat guides the cooling air towards a stud boltthat fixes the canister mufflerto the engine main bodyis formed on an inside wall surface of the shroudforming the space S.
