The image forming apparatus includes an image carrier, a charging unit, an exposure unit, a developing unit, a transfer unit, a cleaning blade, and a controller. The controller detects printing-coverage rates on a basis of plural areas divided in the longitudinal direction of the image carrier. Upon occurrence of a difference exceeding a specified threshold value among the coverage rates of the plural areas, the controller executes, for a duration of specified aging time, aging process in which the image carrier is driven into rotation in its charged state.

Image forming apparatus

The image forming apparatus includes an image carrier, a charging unit, an exposure unit, a developing unit, a transfer unit, a cleaning blade, and a controller. The controller detects printing-coverage rates on a basis of plural areas divided in the longitudinal direction of the image carrier. At a specified timing, the controller executes aging process in which the image carrier in a charged state is driven into rotation under light irradiation by the exposure unit. For the aging process, the controller sets a condition that a light quantity of the exposure unit for an area of larger coverage rate is larger than a light quantity of the exposure unit for an area of smaller coverage rate.

An image forming apparatus includes an image carrier, a charging device, an exposure device, a developing device, a transfer portion, a cleaning blade, and a control section. The control section detects a charging current amount of the image carrier and, when an integrated current amount obtained by integrating values of the charging current amount in a prescribed length of time is lower than a prescribed threshold value, performs an aging process in which the image carrier is driven to rotate in a charged state.

A developing device includes a developing container, a first stirring member and a second stirring member, and a developing roller. The developing container includes a first stirring chamber, a second stirring chamber, and a communication portion. The first stirring member includes a reverse spiral vane that conveys a developer in a direction reverse to a circulation direction. An air discharge duct is formed on a wall portion of the first stirring chamber opposed to the reverse spiral vane and in an area excluding the communication portion and discharges air from the first stirring chamber to an outside of the developing container via an air discharge port at a distal end of the air discharge duct. A filtration portion is disposed in the air discharge duct adjacently to the air discharge port and restricts leakage of the developer through the air discharge port.

A developing device includes a developer container, a developer carrier, and a stirring/conveying member. The developer container stores developer containing toner. The developer carrier carries on its surface the toner in the developer container. The stirring/conveying member includes a rotary shaft rotatably supported on the developer container and a stirring blade formed around the outer circumferential face of the rotary shaft and stirs and conveys the developer in the developer container. The stirring/conveying member to be used can be selected from a plurality of types of stirring/conveying members with rotary shafts with different shaft diameters.

A cleaning device has a housing where an opening and a toner storage portion are formed, a cleaning member arranged in the opening, a collection roller collecting toner attached to the cleaning member, a blade scraping off toner attached to the collection roller, a sheet member dividing between the toner storage portion and the opening, and a sealing member arranged to be in contact with the housing and both end parts of the outer circumferential surface of the collection roller in the axial direction. A first region having a predetermined surface roughness is formed in a middle part of the circumferential surface of the collection roller in the axial direction, and a second region having a lower surface roughness than the first region is formed next to both end parts of the first region in the axial direction.

The controller controls the magnetic roller voltage applier to apply, to the magnetic roller, a first voltage for forcibly conveying a thin layer of toner held on the developing roller toward the magnetic roller for a first period required for one turn of the developing roller, and controls the developing roller voltage applier to apply, to the developing roller, a second voltage for causing toner on the developing roller to fly onto the image carrier for a second period when at least the forcible consumption electrostatic latent image faces a facing portion between the developing roller and the magnetic roller. At least parts of the first period and the second period are overlapped with each other.
