The disclosure discloses a printer including a feeder configured to feed one print-receiving medium that comprises a plurality of print-receiving parts. A printing head is configured to form a plurality of print parts by sequentially forming desired prints on the plurality of print-receiving parts. A CPU executes a determination process and a printing control process. In the determination process, a type of the one print-receiving medium is determined on the basis of a comparison between the parameters of the one print-receiving medium detected by a sensor and the parameters of each of the plural types of print-receiving medium stored in a memory. In the printing control process, controlling a print formation operation of the printing head is controlled on the basis of a determination result in the determination process.

When a print pattern setting mode is set and a printing apparatus receives print data including object print data from an external device, all arrangement patterns where the object print data is located in each printing areas defined in template data are produced. A setting capability checking process is executed for each arrangement pattern. Preview data is produced for the arrangement patterns where all the object print data can be printed and displayed on a liquid crystal display. When preview data displayed on the liquid crystal display is selected, the arrangement pattern corresponding to the preview data is set to the template data.

In a printing apparatus, the number of delimiters included in received data from a host apparatus is smaller than the number of input items of a template by one. A pattern data producing device incorporated in a sewing machine which comprises a sewing mechanism including a needle swing mechanism and a display and in which the sewing mechanism is operated so that a pattern sewing can be carried out, thereby producing pattern data. The pattern data producing device includes a touch panel mounted on an outer surface of the display so as to be capable of detecting a location of touch, a pen-shaped pointing device inputting and instructing on the touch panel a plurality of points corresponding to a plurality of needle drop points forming a pattern, a pattern data producing unit which obtains location data of needle drop points from the input points to produce pattern data, and a display data producing unit which produces, from the location data of needle drop points, display data for displaying a configuration of the pattern on the display.

A sewing machine capable of embroidering includes a sewing mechanism having a sewing needle, a frame moving mechanism that moves an embroidery frame based on embroidery data composed of a plurality of embroidery pattern sections, a thread trimming mechanism that executes a thread trim operation based on a thread trim instruction, a thread wiping mechanism that executes a thread wiping operation after the execution of the thread trim operation by the thread trimming mechanism, and a controlling unit that moves the embroidery frame by the frame moving mechanism to a sewing start position of the next embroidery pattern section based on the embroidery data after the thread trim operation by the thread trimming mechanism and before the execution of the thread wiping operation by the thread wiping mechanism.

While reading and analyzing embroidery data for sewing, when an X-direction moving amount and a Y-direction moving amount are at most predetermined small amounts and seam stop data indicating a finish stitch-concentrated portion where embroidery operation is repeated over three stitches for a seam stop, is detected, an X-direction moving amount of a second one of finish stitch data is changed, the X-direction moving amount of a third one of the finish stitch data is changed, and finish stitch concentration of the seam stop is resolved by dispersing finish stitch positions. As a result, not only cutting of thread and swelling of a seam can be prevented but also a thread tightening operation can sufficiently be carried out by reducing moving distance of embroidery thread during thread tightening.

When rotating processing of an embroidery pattern is called, an embroidery data processing device first determines whether a right turn key is operated. When the right turn key is operated, a current rotational angle is increased by a predetermined number of degrees. By contrast, when a left turn key is operated, the current rotational angle is reduced by a predetermined number of degrees. Further, display of a mask indicating sizes in the X and Y directions of the embroidery pattern is changed based on the instructed rotational angle. When the rotational angle is finally determined, the embroidery pattern is rotationally converted and the mask data is formed based on the embroidery data after the conversion. Therefore, when the embroidery pattern is rotated, a range for arranging the rotated embroidery pattern in a sewing area is not narrowed.

In a sewing data processing device, an LCD is switched to a pattern selecting screen when a user selects a desired stitch or sewing mode on a menu selecting screen. The user selects a desired embroidery pattern on the pattern selecting screen. When the selected embroidery pattern is a character pattern protected by copyright, a control device counts the number of times of use of the embroidery data of the selected character pattern to store data of the number of times of use in a non-volatile memory.
