When a target blown air temperature TAO is in a predetermined intermediate temperature zone, a blower is automatically stopped (S), an outside air mode is selected when the bloweris automatically stopped. When an outside air temperature Tam is a first predetermined temperature (15&#xb0; C.) or lower, an opening degree of an air mix door is corrected to a high temperature side in comparison with the time of the operation of the blower (S), and when the outside air temperature Tam is a second predetermined temperature (25&#xb0; C.) or higher, the opening degree of the air mix door is corrected to the low temperature side in comparison with the time of the operation of the blower (S).

A freezing prevention system for a refrigeration device includes a freezing-prevention temperature sensor for detecting a refrigerant temperature in a refrigerant evaporator, and a control unit for controlling operation of a refrigerant compressor based on the detected refrigerant temperature. The control unit includes a calculating means for calculating an integral value of the detected refrigerant temperature integrating with respect to a passed time after the detected refrigerant temperature becomes equal to or lower than 0&#xb0; C. When the integral value becomes equal to or larger than a predetermined value, the control unit stops the operation of the refrigerant compressor. Accordingly, the freezing prevention system can accurately perform a freezing prevention control while its production cost can be reduced.

A vehicle air conditioner controls the air-conditioning automatically based on sensors detecting environmental conditions regarding the air-conditioning of a vehicle and based on an operational portion operable by a passenger. One of the sensors is a sunlight sensor for detecting the amount of sunlight incident into the vehicle. A signal detected by the sunlight sensor is modified to have a time constant by a time constant process. The modification is based on the elevation angle of the sunlight and the inside air temperature of the vehicle. The modified signal is used for automatic control of the air-conditioning.

Electric heaters and blower units are disposed inside an occupant seat having exterior cover members, each of which has a plurality of outlet openings. Each electric heater heats the corresponding exterior cover member, and each blower unit blows air through the outlet openings of the corresponding cover member. A gas concentration detector for detecting a concentration of pollutant gas such as NOx or SOx contained in ambient air is composed of an oxide-semiconductor gas sensor heated by a heater and a controller for determining the gas concentration by comparing a concentration level detected by the gas sensor with a calculated comparison level. The comparison level is calculated so that it follows the detected level with a certain delay. The degree of the delay is set shorter in an unstable region- of the gas sensor than in a stable region, thereby to effectively determine the gas concentration even in the unstable region.

A warning device for warning change time of a filter for cleaning air includes an indication lamp which indicates a warning of the change time of the filter, and a control unit for controlling operation of the indication lamp. The control unit sets a next timer setting value for the next filter change to a filter-using time until a change of the filter, and operates the indication lamp when the filter-using time passes the next timer setting value after the change of the filter. Thus, the warning of the change time of the filter is performed at a suitable moment reflecting a variation of a clogging degree of the filter. As a result, the warning device accurately performs the warning of the change time of the filer without using a sensor for detecting the clogging degree of the filter.

An automotive air conditioning system designed to switch a ventilation mode to an air recirculation mode automatically when the contamination of outside air is greater than a given level. The system includes a mode selection prohibiting circuit that prohibits the switching between the air recirculation mode and the ventilation mode and operates the air conditioning system in the ventilation mode when the vehicle is traveling at high speeds or when the outside temperature is relatively low. This allows fresh air having a relatively lower humidity to be drawn into the passenger compartment, thereby avoiding fogging of inner surfaces of windows of the vehicle.

An air conditioning system for a vehicle is composed of a control unit which controls an air switching door, an element for detecting a clean-air level of the outside air and a vehicle speed sensor. The control unit controls the air-switching door to set to the outside-air mode when the clean-air level is higher than a reference level and to the inside-air mode when the clean-air level is not higher than the reference level. The control unit holds the inside-air mode until the vehicle speed becomes higher than a predetermined speed irrespective of the clean-air level.

According to the present invention, when target temperatures of air blown out toward a first and a second air conditioning zones are equal, a target opening degree of a second air mixing door is set to an actual opening degree of a first air mixing door. In this way, the second air mixing door is located at a deviated position in the range of -4-+4 (%) from the actual position of the first air mixing door. Thus, a relative positional deviation between the respective air mixing doors becomes 4 (%) even at maximum, which is approximately half as compared with a conventional value. An air conditioning system for an automobile having an evaporator, in a refrigerating circuit, and a heater core which is located downstream from the evaporator in a duct having an inlet for introduction of air and an outlet for discharging the air into a cabin, and an air mix damper for controlling the ratio of the amount of air into the heater core and the amount of air by-passing the heater core. The degree of the opening of the air mix damper is controlled in accordance with the cooling capacity at the evaporator sensed by an after-evaporator temperature sensor so that a target value of the temperature of the air discharged into the cabin is obtained. A correction of the degree of opening of the air mix damper is done by estimating an actual temperature at the after-evaporator sensor during a transient state of the system between the ON and OFF conditions of a compressor, so that a desired setting of the air conditioning state is maintained. The target air temperature is not corrected if it is determined that the system is in a heating mode.

An air-conditioning apparatus for allowing the temperatures of a first air-conditioning zone and a second air-conditioning zone to quickly approach the respective set temperatures by properly controlling the air flow rate and the ratio of fresh/recirculated air, even when the set temperatures differ from one another. The device includes a controller that determines whether the system is in a transitional period or in a steady state based on the deviation of the compartment temperature detected by the compartment temperature sensor from the first and second set temperatures for the first and second zones. If a determination is made that the system is in a transitional period, the controller acts to determine the flow rates of air being supplied to respective blowers as well as making the determination concerning the guidance ratio of the fresh to recirculated air.

By giving an attention to the fact that the difference in the transmittance of solar radiation in the visible light region is small for each type of glass, even though the type of window glass is changed, the sensitivity ratio .alpha. of a sensor element 43a in a solar sensor 43 is set to be from 0.8 to 5 so that it has a spectral sensitivity closer to the visible light region in comparison with a conventional solar sensor. By this, the variation in the deviation of the sensor outputs depending on the types of the window glass is eliminated. Thus, a target sensor output corresponding to the amount of solar radiation can be attained without being influenced by the types of the glass, even when the transmittance for the wavelengths of sun light changes depending on the types of the glass.

An air conditioning apparatus for a vehicle includes a first sunlight sensor disposed in a driver's seat side and a second sunlight sensor disposed in a passenger seat side space. The sunlight sensors are integrally formed with a filter and a Fresnel lens. When an elevation angle of sunlight is low, an inadequate correction of sunlight amounts is prevented by the Fresnel lens. Further, when sunlight enters the vehicle from the side, detected sunlight amounts detected by the first and second sunlight sensors are corrected so that a ratio or a difference between the detected sunlight amounts becomes large when the ratio or the difference is in a predetermined range. Therefore, when sunlight enters from the side, the correction of the detected sunlight amounts can be performed adequately so that passengers in the passenger compartment of the vehicle feel comfortable.

An air conditioner for a vehicle wherein a vehicle compartment can be quickly warmed up if it is cool and, when the vehicle compartment has been warmed up, the heat load caused by incident solar radiation can be offset without having the vehicle driver feel cold. A variable GW is determined by a balance (Tset-Tr) between a setting temperature and a vehicle inside air temperature, and a corrected solar radiation quantity is defined as a value which is a product of a value detected by a solar radiation sensor and the variable GW. Based on this corrected solar radiation quantity, there are decided a temperature falling allowance and an air volume rising allowance of the air blown from a face level air outlet. If a first necessary blown air temperature (TAOD) is lower than 25.degree. C., a distribution ratio Fs is set as 1 and is made gradually smaller if TAOD is higher than 25.degree. C. The second necessary blown air temperature is computed based on said TAOD and a product of said Fs and the solar radiation quantity detected by the solar radiation sensor.

Air conditioner for use in a vehicle

An air conditioning apparatus for the cabin of a vehicle wherein an increased amount and/or temperature of an air flow from an upper outlet is obtained when sun radiation is introduced into the cabin. A provisional air flow correction amount DVA1 is calculated based on a detected sun radiation amount. A final air flow correction amount DVA is calculated as the provisional air flow correction amount DVA1 multiplied by a sun radiation correction factor GUN, the value of which is varied from 1.0 to 0 as the increase in a value of a required discharged air temperature TAOB in a range of the temperature TAOB higher than 50.degree. C. The amount of sun radiation, which makes an upper level discharged air temperature to be equal to 20.degree. C., is increased in accordance with the increase in the required discharged air temperature TAOB at the region of the temperature TAOB higher than 50.degree. C. As a result, during the winter season, an increase in the air flow amount and the discharged air temperature for cancelling the sun radiation is suppressed, thereby preventing a driver and a passenger from feeling cold.
