A liquid electrophotographic developing apparatus including a developing unit with an elongated opening disposed adjacent to a photoreceptor and an air duct provided around the elongated opening. The air flow in the air duct has a predetermined air pressure to hold a liquid developer within a space substantially between the developing unit and the image-bearing surface while permitting toner particles in the liquid developer deposited on the image-bearing surface to be retained by the image&mdash;bearing surface and volatile solvent to be vaporized.

A liquid electrophotographic developing apparatus including a developing unit and a plurality of air transport members. The developing unit has an elongated opening disposed adjacent to a moving image-bearing surface of a photoreceptor, and it is used for converting an electrostatic latent image into a toner image. Electrodes formed within the elongated opening provide an electric field to charge toner particles in a liquid developer. The air transport members are provided around the elongated opening of the developing unit, and airflow therein has a predetermined air pressure to transport unused developer away from the image-bearing surface while permitting toner particles in the liquid developer deposited on the image-bearing surface to be retained by the image-bearing surface.

Liquid electrophotographic developing apparatus using electrodes to charge toner particles

A color electrophotographic apparatus which can achieve full color image reproduction with one-pass developing is disclosed. According to the present invention, a flexible photoconductor is formed as an endless belt driven by a set of rollers. Developers of various colors are projected onto a surface of the photoconductor from a plurality of developing units. After the projection of the color developers is achieved, the resultant full color toner image is transferred to a recording medium. The toner image is then fused onto the recording medium, thereby reproducing the full color image. The flexible photoconductor is arranged to have a planar surface between the two rollers, with the four optical exposure units positioned to direct four parallel beams of light in a direction perpendicular to the planar printing surface of the photoconductor. Each of the aligned exposure units have an associated line memory register and at least one shift register for horizontally aligning the lines of information from each exposure unit.

The specification discloses an electrophotographic image forming system. The system includes a photoconductor connected to a first electric potential constituting substantially an elongated cylindrical drum provided for rotating around an axis along an elongated direction of the cylindrical drum having an external charging surface disposed thereon. The electrophotographic system further includes a non-contact charger which includes a plurality of mutually insulated conductive films each having a sharp edge pointing perpendicularly to the charging surface. The non-contact charger further includes a packaging frame for securely attaching to and supporting the plurality of mutually insulated conductive films thereon. The plurality of mutually insulated conductive films are connected to a second electric potential different from the first electric potential for activating an electric discharge between the sharp edges of the conductive film and the charging surface.

The image developing part 10 is constructed from the developing agent storing part 20 storing the fluid developing agent 18 and the developing agent supplying part 22 confronting the surface of the photosensitive drum 12 via the minute opening 25. Stable developing can be made with no inferior image, irrespective of variations in factors relating to the developing function, which affect the developing function, such as a variation in surrounding circumstance, surface potentials of an electrostatic latent image carrier medium and a developer carrier medium or the like. When surface potential sensors serving as a means for detecting a factor relating to the developing function detect variations in the surface potentials of latent image carrier medium or developer carrier medium, voltages applied from power sources, to conductivity regulating member, developer carrier medium and electrically conductive developer supply member are controlled so that the volume of the developer sticking to the electrostatic latent image carrier medium is maintained to be constant. The developer carrier medium transfers a thin layer of the developer to a developing section opposing a photosensitive body and the developer is shifted in an electric field between the surface potential of the electrostatic latent image section on the photosensitive body and the surface potential of the developer carrier medium so as to effect developing.
