The printing apparatus prints the character information whose print size is adjusted and the symbol image of the two-dimensional code maintained at the predetermined print size, in a serial arrangement, in a range of the print tape having the designated length.

Tape printers

A printer comprising a key-in unit, a cartridge detecting unit, a data storage, a ROM, a font memory, a display control unit, a display, a print control unit, a printing unit, and a controller. When a cartridge which contains a printing medium is placed in the printing unit, the color of the printing medium is then determined through the cartridge detecting unit. The user inputs character data, etc., without specifying any print colors from the key-in unit. The input character data is then stored in the data storage. When such input character data is printed, the controller automatically sets the color of a character printing pattern at a color predetermined in correspondence to the color of the printing medium determined through the cartridge detecting unit. The printing unit prints the character data, etc., in the color set by the controller.

A plurality of types of format data items are stored in a format storage section according to the width of a label tape and the number of lines of print data. A tape width sensing section senses the width of the label tape. A control section senses the number of lines of print data. The control section reads from the format storage section a plurality of formats corresponding to the sensed label tape width and the number of lines of print data sensed, and displays them on a display section. The user selects a suitable one from the plurality of formats displayed. The control section causes a printing section to print the entered data on the label tape according to the selected format.
