A die casting machine has a clamping device and an injection device. The clamping device has a fixed die plate which holds a fixed die, a movable die plate which holds a moving die, an electrically operated die opening and closing-use driving device which moves the movable die plate in a die opening and closing direction, and a clamping cylinder which generates a clamping force. The injection device has a sleeve, a plunger which capable of sliding in the sleeve, an electrically operated injection-use driving device which drives the plunger at least at the time of low speed injection, and an injection cylinder which drives the plunger at least at the time of high speed injection.

A manufacturing method that enables stably making a high-quality optical fiber is provided. The manufacturing method of the present invention comprises: a softened portion falling step in which an optical fiber preform is heated in a heating furnace and a dropping part of softened portion of the preform thus heat-softened is allowed to drop; and a drawing step for drawing the preform such that the softened glass is drawn into a fiber by applying a tension with a take-up means after the softened portion falling step, whereas the preform is rotated about its axis at the softened portion falling step.

Method and apparatus for producing optical fiber

Simple and small-sized equipment which continuously afford alternate twists to an optical fiber and a method using the apparatus are provided. The equipment includes: a guide roller for causing the fiber to roll; a roller supporting member for holding the roller in a manner allowing the roller to freely turn about an axial center X; and a driving unit to cause the roller to oscillate by making the supporting member to turn about an axial center Y that is inclined relative to the axial center X. The method includes: arranging a guide roller to intersect the fiber, the roller being held by a roller supporting member to freely turn about an axial center X; oscillating the roller by driving the supporting member to revolve about the axial center Y which is inclined relative to the axis center X; and causing the fiber to roll to afford alternate twists to the fiber.

Equipment for providing twist to an optical fiber

Disclosed is a method for electric clamping, which performs a clamping process in parallel with a core-drawing-in process, avoiding damages of molds and core mechanisms and enabling secure clamping. The method comprises the steps of: setting a check point, for judging safety of the clamping process in advance, in a position that is nearer to the operational start position by a predetermined distance in the mold opening direction than a position of the movable mold when the core-drawing-in process is expected to be completed, wherein the core-drawing-in process and the clamping process proceed in parallel with each other in a straight course for reciprocating a movable mold; activating a core system and a servo-motor to start an operation to draw a core into a cavity in parallel with an operation to move the movable mold in the mold closing direction; detecting whether or not the movable mold reaches the check point; judging whether or not the core reaches the position in which the core is fully drawn into the cavity at a point of time at which the movable mold reaches the check point, and confirming the completion of the core-drawing-in process. Thereafter, the clamping process of the molds is further continued if confirming that the core-drawing-in process is already completed.

A die clamping apparatus including a movable plate which is in connection with a pushing-out pin which is projected from and retracted to a moving die and which is held movably with respect to a moving die plate, a clamp member for obtaining a constraint of the movable member, an air cylinder and a hook member. Only a movement of the movable member is constraint by the air cylinder with respect to the moving die plate when the latter is moved in a die opening direction from a die opening limit position, so that a resultant relative movement between the movable plate and the moving die plate, which causes the pushing-out pin to be projected from the moving die, resulting in a removal of a molded product, while the constraint of the movable member prevents the moving die plate from being moved in the die closing direction when the moving die plate in the die opening limit position is under non clamping condition.

The present invention relates to an optical fiber fabrication method by which an optical fiber having an objective chromatic dispersion characteristic can be obtained readily. In an optical fiber fabrication method, a cutoff wavelength is measured in an optical fiber with a fixed length obtained by first drawing a part of an optical fiber preform. A target glass diameter for yielding an objective chromatic dispersion characteristic is then determined based on the cutoff wavelength thus measured. Then the rest of the optical fiber preform is drawn so that the glass diameter becomes the target glass diameter thus determined, thereby fabricating the optical fiber.
