An image reading apparatus comprises a first reading unit configured to output an analog signal by reading an original, a second reading unit different from the first reading unit, a conversion unit configured to convert analog signals outputted from the first reading unit and the second reading unit to digital signals, a wire connection control unit configured to control wire connection between the first reading unit and the second reading unit, and the conversion unit, and an output control unit configured to control an output of an analog signal from the first reading unit.

An image reading apparatus that controls relative positions of a carriage and a document in a first direction using a motor, so as to read an image of the document on a line by line basis, the carriage being mounted with an image sensor and a light source. The image reading apparatus detects an amount of movement caused by the motor in the first direction and generates a first trigger signal in response to input of a synchronization signal generated in accordance with the detected amount of movement, the first trigger signal instructing to start accumulation of charge in the image sensor, and, after a predetermined amount of time since the synchronization signal used for generating the first trigger signal is input, generates a second trigger signal, the second trigger signal instructing to end accumulation of the charge being accumulated in the image sensor.

An image reading apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: an image sensor to read a document; a movement unit configured to relatively move the document and the image sensor by using a motor as a drive source; an output unit configured to output data of a plurality of colors based on accumulated light-receiving signals by accumulating the light-receiving signals from the image sensor for each color in order for each line in a direction of the movement based on an encoder pulse output from an encoder in accordance with rotation of the motor; and a correction unit configured to perform shading correction for each piece of data of the plurality of colors output by the output unit by using a correction value to correct influence on data of the plurality of colors due to a dark current in the image sensor based on shading data.

An apparatus includes an image sensor that has a plurality of sensor chips having photoelectric conversion elements and that outputs pixel signals from a plurality of output channels; identifying means that identifies a width of a document to be read by the image sensor; and signal control means that controls signals to be output from the image sensor. In the image sensor, different sensor chips at an interval of the number of channels of the output channels are connected to each output channel, and the signal control means controls output of a pixel signal of each sensor chip based on the identified document width.
